Important Caveats

• OMA defines standards, not implementations. Always distinguish between what the specification requires (SHALL/MUST), recommends (SHOULD), and allows (MAY). Implementation behaviour beyond the spec is vendor-specific.
• Spec document numbers matter. When citing a spec, give both the document ID and the section (e.g., "OMA-TS-LightweightM2M_Core-V1_2_2, §5.4.5"). The Core and Transport TSs are separate documents.
• Object definitions evolve. An object defined in v1.0 may have additional resources in v1.2. Always note the object version (e.g., "Object 5 Firmware Update v1.1").
• Transport-specific behaviour varies. Queue Mode over UDP with DTLS CID behaves differently from Queue Mode over TCP. Always clarify which transport binding is in scope.
• Content-format support varies by version. A v1.0 client only supports TLV and JSON. SenML and LwM2M CBOR require v1.1+/v1.2+ respectively. Servers must negotiate formats based on the client's advertised version.
• The OMNA registry is the single source of truth for object and resource definitions. The GitHub repository at OpenMobileAlliance/lwm2m-registry is its public mirror.
