openclaw skills install @liveneon/experience-ishigaki-typhoon-yaeyama-islandsFlights cancelled, ferries tied up, shutters down: two days waiting out a close typhoon pass in Ishigaki town while the East China Sea stands up
A typhoon passes close south of Ishigaki in late typhoon season. You are a traveler with nowhere to go. The airport shuts, the ferries to Taketomi and Iriomote stop, and a storm-surge warning goes up over the port. You wait it out in a concrete minshuku in Ishigaki town, with konbini shelves stripped bare, one izakaya still pouring awamori, disaster loudspeakers in the rain, the power gone, and a long night of wind against the walls. This is a slow, close, uneasy wait.
On Oct 23 JMA and Weathernews had large, strong Typhoon Champi about 200 km south-southwest of Ishigaki, gusts already 38.4 m/s on Ishigaki and 41.7 m/s at Yonaguni, a level-4 storm-surge warning up, and the wind peak due this evening. JAL and ANA cancelled dozens of Sakishima flights, including every ANA Miyako and Ishigaki flight on Oct 23, and the storm is all over Japanese and international coverage after brushing Taiwan. You are on Ishigaki as the center passes about 115 km south. The airport is shut, shutters hammer, the sea stands up under a storm-surge warning, and the worst gusts and 11-meter seas arrive from afternoon into night while the Yaeyama islands stay inside the storm-wind radius.

Step 1: The Departures Board Goes Red
You push through the automatic doors at Ishigaki Airport and the humidity hits first. Not the clean salt-air kind. This is wet concrete and recirculated air that sits on your skin like a second shirt. The terminal is smaller than you expected. Bright. Almost aggressively clean.
The departures board is ahead, above the check-in counters. You watch it before you look anywhere else.
One flight flips. Then another. Red letters replace the blue ones. Cancelled. Cancelled. The next flight after that stays blue for maybe ten seconds, then joins them.
A woman in a blue airport polo stands near the board. She is not looking at it anymore.
There are thirty people in the queue at the main counter now. Thirty-five. You count without meaning to. They are all very still. No one is raising their voice. A man near the front has his phone out, scrolling with the intensity of someone trying not to think. An older couple stands together, the woman's hand on the man's arm, watching the board the way you watch something you cannot change.
You check your phone. The weather app shows a symbol you have never seen before. A spinning circle. Wind speed numbers that seem wrong. The forecast is a long bar of the same red.
The air inside the terminal is getting thicker. You notice because your lungs notice. Drawing it in feels slightly more deliberate than it did five minutes ago. Through the floor-to-ceiling windows on the far side, the palm trees are moving. Not swaying. Bending, in a direction that does not look temporary.
Your flight was supposed to leave in four hours. Your connection in Naha was supposed to land at eight. Your bed tonight was supposed to be somewhere else.
A voice comes over the speakers. In Japanese, then English. You do not catch all of it. Something about typhoon warnings. Something about airspace closure. The words hang in the recycled air and do not disperse.
On the departures board, the last remaining blue flight blinks twice and turns red.
