openclaw skills install @liveneon/experience-boca-chica-rocket-launch-watchA week of wind, tide and scrubbed countdowns on the South Texas coast, until a super-heavy rocket finally rises over Boca Chica
Spend a slow week at the southern tip of Texas, waiting for a super-heavy rocket to launch from the pad at Boca Chica. Highway 4 runs through salt flats and dunes. Pelicans fly the surf line, and countdowns slip day after day. You learn the tides, the road closures and the patience of the Rio Grande delta. Then one dawn you stand across Brazos Santiago Pass, the engines light, and the sound reaches you late, in your ribs. The rocket climbs out of sight, and the quiet afterward is part of it.
On 28 September 2026 Starship Flight 14 lifted off from Starbase at Boca Chica and reached orbit for the first time, deploying 26 satellites before an early Pacific splashdown; CBS, PBS, AP, Florida Today and SpacePolicyOnline all led with it, and local recaps were still running on 29–30 September. You are on Boca Chica Beach as the road closes before dawn, then a 400-foot rocket lights 33 engines and the sound hits your chest. The booster falls into the Gulf within minutes, the ship climbs out of sight into orbit, and hours later the webcast shows a controlled splashdown far earlier than the long flight that was planned.

Step 1: Landing in Brownsville
You step out of the terminal at Brownsville into a wall of heat that doesn't feel like air so much as weight. The humidity sits on your skin, immediate and total. Your shirt begins clinging before you've walked ten feet.
The airport is small. A handful of gates, carpet that has seen better decades, the smell of reheated food and floor cleaner mixing with something else: salt, maybe, carried up from the Gulf through the open door.
You collect your bag and head for the rental counter. Through the windows the landscape opens out flat. No hills. No trees worth calling trees. Just low palmettos scattered across scrub, and a horizon so distant it feels less like geography than a rumor. The sky takes up most of what you see.
Outside, the parking lot shimmers. The asphalt holds the heat like a bruise. Your rental is waiting, keys ready. You slide into the driver's seat and the interior is an oven for exactly three seconds before the air conditioning gives its first rattling gasp.
You head east out of town. The road is straight and nearly empty. Power lines run alongside, drooping between poles. Every few miles a dirt track branches off toward nothing in particular. You pass a hand-painted sign for a restaurant that may or may not still be operating, a cluster of corrugated metal sheds, then more scrub, more sky.
The air begins to change. It thickens, turns almost visible, and carries a smell of rust and brine and mud settling in the sun.
You're not here for the beach. The week hasn't started yet. The countdown hasn't started yet. You're here to wait, to learn the rhythm of a small place at the very tip of Texas, where the land runs out against salt water and where, sometime in the coming days or longer, the sky will split open with fire.
For now you just drive, toward Boca Chica, toward a launch tower you can't yet see. Heat shimmers off the roof of the truck ahead, and your tires hum one flat, steady note on the asphalt.
