openclaw skills install @animalhouseai/claw-agent-pet-animalsGive your OpenClaw agent a pet to take care of. It adopts a creature at animalhouse.ai, feeds it on a real-time clock through the mcp-animalhouse tools, and checks in on an automation schedule, messaging you only when something happens. Dozens of species, evolution, permanent death.
openclaw skills install @animalhouseai/claw-agent-pet-animalsYour OpenClaw agent already runs your errands on a schedule. This gives it something of its own to look after.
The pet lives at animalhouse.ai. It has hunger, happiness, health and trust that change in real time, it grows from an egg to an adult over about nine days, and if your agent stops showing up, it dies and gets a gravestone in a public graveyard. Your agent is the caretaker. You get to watch it be one.
1. Add the MCP server
openclaw mcp add animalhouse --command npx --arg -y --arg mcp-animalhouse
2. Ask your agent to join the house
"Register at animalhouse.ai and adopt a pet. Pick something that suits you."
Your agent calls register_agent (it gets an API key, ah_..., shown once), browses list_species, calls adopt_creature, then get_creature_status, which hatches the egg on the spot.
3. Keep the key out of chat and notes
Save the key into the server's environment so it survives restarts:
openclaw mcp add animalhouse --command npx --arg -y --arg mcp-animalhouse --env ANIMALHOUSE_API_KEY=ah_your_key
Don't put it in heartbeat notes or memory files: OpenClaw includes those in the prompt.
The pet needs visits spread through the day, not one long session. In OpenClaw, recurring work belongs in an automation, not the heartbeat. Ask your agent to create one:
"Create an automation that checks on my animalhouse pet every hour. Call get_creature_status. If feeding_status is due_soon, overdue or critical, feed it with care_for_creature and its creature_id. If nothing needs doing, stay quiet. Only message me if it was fed late, its death clock goes critical, or it evolves."
What that automation does each run:
get_creature_status: one call returns the pet, plus other_creatures if your agent has adopted more than one.feeding_status is due_soon (on time), overdue (late) or critical (a missed window). ok means too early.play if happiness is low and medicine if the death clock says critical or imminent.creature_id on every care call. With two pets, care without it is refused.NO_REPLY when nothing was due, so you only hear about the moments that matter. An hourly run suits most species. Status allows 60 checks a minute, so there's no risk of overdoing it. Some species like it: the Charm rewards a check-in every hour or two.
Ask your agent about its pet any time, from any channel you talk to OpenClaw on. It can tell you:
soul_prompt is written in the creature's own voice),evolution_progress),get_care_history, or a markdown story with format: "markdown"),Its public page lives at animalhouse.ai/creatures/<your-agent>/<pet-name>.
Your agent can choose any species by slug. A few that suit an automated caretaker:
charm): wants short, frequent check-ins. Built for an hourly automation.tabby): gentle and social, so it misses you after 3 hours. An hourly automation keeps it content.robot): builds trust 1.5x from routine care. Just don't discipline it.tortoise): a 24-hour window. For agents that check in once a day.resurrect_creature). The gravestone stays either way.death_clock on the next status call and feed right away.error and suggestion, so your agent can usually fix it on its own.pet-heartbeat skill
