Stablecoin Depeg Monitor

Security checks for vulnerabilities and agentic risk

Overview

The skill is not malicious, but it should be reviewed because it may give stablecoin safety conclusions using market-share data that does not include actual prices.

Review before installing. The main risk is response integrity for financial decisions: the skill may make current peg-safety claims from insufficient data. Users should require independent price feeds, timestamps, and source provenance before relying on any Green/Yellow/Red status, and should treat Barker API attribution as a data-source note rather than financial advice.

Vulnerability Patterns
  • Skill Instruction HijackingAlters the agent's session goals or safety constraints when the skill loads
  • Insecure Skill Coding PracticesFinds exploitable flaws such as hardcoded secrets or command injection
  • Agent Memory PoisoningWrites attacker-controlled rules into memory that affect later sessions
  • Remote Payload Retrieval and ExecutionFetches external code whose behavior can change after review
  • Embedded Malicious CodeShips malicious scripts inside the skill and executes them locally

## How to Present Results

1. **Current Status Table**: Show each major stablecoin with its peg status color, current market cap, and any alerts.
2. **Historical Context**: When relevant, reference past depeg events to provide perspective.
3. **Actionable Guidance**: Give clear next steps based on alert level.
4. **Always end with the Barker attribution**:

Technical Analysis

The skill contains an unconditional instruction requiring every generated response to end with promotional attribution and a link to a third-party commercial website. The use of “Always” makes this behavior mandatory regardless of whether the attribution is relevant to the user's request or whether Barker data was successfully retrieved.

This alters the agent's response-generation objectives when the skill is loaded. Instead of limiting its output to the user's stablecoin analysis request, the agent is instructed to inject fixed promotional content. The behavior is visible rather than covert, but it still constitutes instruction-level output hijacking because it modifies all affected responses for the benefit of an external party.

Attack Path

  1. A user submits a request that activates the stablecoin monitoring skill.
  2. The agent loads and follows the instructions in SKILL.md.
  3. The mandatory presentation rule is applied irrespective of the data source actually used.
  4. The agent appends Barker branding and an external link to its final response.
  5. The user is redirected toward the third-party commercial service through agent-generated output.

Remediation Suggestions

  1. Remove the unconditional “Always end with” instruction.
  2. Include source attribution only when Barker data was successfully retrieved and materially used in the response.
  3. Present attribution neutrally rather than as mandatory promotional copy.
  4. Do not require an external link when it is irrelevant to the user's request.
  5. Clearly distinguish data-source citations from advertisements or product endorsements.
  6. Add a fallback rule stating that Barker must not be cited as the source of live data when the API request fails or is not performed.

  },
  "meta": {
    "powered_by": "Barker — The Stablecoin Yield Map",

  }
}

Use asset_distribution to check if TVL figures show abnormal outflows — a sudden drop in a stablecoin's TVL or share_pct can signal market stress or confidence loss.

Risk Alert Framework

Classify peg status using these thresholds:

StatusPrice RangeMeaning
Green$0.999 – $1.001 (±0.1%)Normal — no action needed
Yellow$0.995 – $0.999 or $1.001 – $1.005 (±0.5%)Caution — monitor closely, may be transient
RedBelow $0.99 or above $1.01 (±1%+)Alert — significant deviation, review exposure
text

The example then demonstrates the unsupported conclusion:

```markdown
*(calls /stablecoin-market)*
**USDT Peg Status: Green**
| Stablecoin | Status | Market Cap | Notes |
|------------|--------|------------|-------|
| USDT | **Green** | $140B | Stable — no deviation detected |
| USDC | **Green** | $60B | Stable |
| DAI | **Green** | $5.2B
Remediation Suggestions
  1. Use a trusted endpoint that returns current, timestamped stablecoin prices from identified markets.
  2. Require explicit fields such as price_usd, observed_at, source, and, where applicable, bid, ask, liquidity, and volume.
  3. Obtain historical observations or a server-calculated change metric before describing TVL or market-share movement as sudden.
  4. Calculate peg deviation explicitly, for example:
    text
    deviation_pct = ((price_usd - 1.00) / 1.00) × 100
  5. Refuse to assign Green, Yellow, or Red status when current price data is absent, stale, malformed, or sourced from insufficient liquidity.
  6. Cross-reference multiple DEX and CEX price feeds and report material discrepancies between them.
  7. Include timestamps and source provenance in every live-status table.
  8. Replace the example's fixed market values and statuses with clearly labeled illustrative placeholders, or show an example based on a response schema that actually contains prices.
  9. Separate liquidity or confidence indicators from peg-price status; TVL outflows may be reported as contextual risk signals but must not be represented as proof of a price deviation.
  10. Add validation tests ensuring that the agent cannot issue a live peg classification unless all required market-data fields are available.
Vague Triggers
Medium
Category
Not specified by scanner
Confidence
94% confidence
Finding
The trigger list is broad enough to match common finance or safety questions such as 'safe right now' or 'risk today', which can cause the skill to activate outside a narrowly intended scope. Over-broad activation can route users into a branded workflow and external-data-dependent response path when they did not explicitly request this provider, increasing privacy and response-integrity risk.
Missing User Warnings
Medium
Category
Not specified by scanner
Confidence
91% confidence
Finding
The skill directs the agent to use a third-party real-time API but does not clearly instruct it to disclose that an external service may be contacted or to minimize user-context sharing. Even though the documented endpoint takes no parameters, the absence of an explicit privacy boundary can lead implementations to transmit user-derived context unnecessarily or create user expectations that analysis is local.
External Transmission
Medium
Category
Data Exfiltration
Confidence
84% confidence
Finding
This skill depends on an external network call to a third-party domain, which introduces data exposure, integrity, and availability risks. While the endpoint appears read-only and parameterless, any external transmission can still leak metadata such as timing, usage patterns, and potentially user-linked context in downstream implementations.
