Security checks for vulnerabilities and agentic risk

Overview

This skill does what it says: it converts common document files to Markdown by running a local converter command on a user-provided file.

Install this if you want an agent to convert supported local documents with `markitdown`; avoid using it on confidential documents unless you trust the local converter and are comfortable with the file contents being read for conversion.

Vulnerability Patterns
  • Skill Instruction HijackingAlters the agent's session goals or safety constraints when the skill loads
  • Agent Memory PoisoningWrites attacker-controlled rules into memory that affect later sessions
  • Remote Payload Retrieval and ExecutionFetches external code whose behavior can change after review
  • Embedded Malicious CodeShips malicious scripts inside the skill and executes them locally
  • Unauthorized Access and Privilege EscalationObtains permissions beyond the task's legitimate needs
Vulnerability Patterns
  • Data ExfiltrationExternal Transmission, Env Variable Harvesting, File System Enumeration
  • Prompt InjectionInstruction Override, Hidden Instructions, Exfiltration Commands
  • Privilege EscalationExcessive Permissions, Sudo/Root Execution, Credential Access
  • Supply ChainUnpinned Dependencies, External Script Fetching, Obfuscated Code
  • Excessive AgencyUnrestricted Tool Access, Autonomous Decision Making, Scope Creep

Finding

The skill invokes an external command on a user-supplied file path but does not warn the user that local files will be passed to a converter tool. Even with shell quoting present, the lack of disclosure can lead to unintended processing of sensitive local documents and reduces informed consent around tool execution.
