GitHub Trending Scraper

Security checks for vulnerabilities and agentic risk

Overview

This skill does what it says: it fetches public GitHub Trending data and optionally saves the JSON output to a user-chosen file.

Install this if you want an agent to retrieve public GitHub Trending repository data. Have the agent save output only to an intended workspace or temporary file path, since the script will overwrite the specified output file.

Vulnerability Patterns
  • Skill Instruction HijackingAlters the agent's session goals or safety constraints when the skill loads
  • Agent Memory PoisoningWrites attacker-controlled rules into memory that affect later sessions
  • Remote Payload Retrieval and ExecutionFetches external code whose behavior can change after review
  • Embedded Malicious CodeShips malicious scripts inside the skill and executes them locally
  • Unauthorized Access and Privilege EscalationObtains permissions beyond the task's legitimate needs
Vulnerability Patterns
  • MCP Least PrivilegeUnderdeclared Capability, Wildcard Permission, Missing Permission Declaration
  • Prompt InjectionInstruction Override, Hidden Instructions, Exfiltration Commands
  • Data ExfiltrationExternal Transmission, Env Variable Harvesting, File System Enumeration
  • Privilege EscalationExcessive Permissions, Sudo/Root Execution, Credential Access
  • Supply ChainUnpinned Dependencies, External Script Fetching, Obfuscated Code

Finding

The skill invokes a network scraper and supports writing results to an arbitrary output path, but the manifest declares no explicit tool scope or permissions boundaries. That creates an authorization gap: an agent may use network access and filesystem writes without clear least-privilege constraints, increasing the risk of unintended outbound requests or overwriting local files if the skill is invoked in broader contexts.
