yaps-meeting-transcription

Security checks for vulnerabilities and agentic risk

Overview

This skill is a coherent local Yaps meeting-transcription adapter with disclosed local command use and file handling.

Install only if you intend to let the agent use your local Yaps installation on selected meeting media. Expect local Yaps projects/history to persist in Yaps, and do not approve unexpected credential prompts or let it upload source media to another service as a fallback.

Vulnerability Patterns
  • Skill Instruction HijackingAlters the agent's session goals or safety constraints when the skill loads
  • Agent Memory PoisoningWrites attacker-controlled rules into memory that affect later sessions
  • Remote Payload Retrieval and ExecutionFetches external code whose behavior can change after review
  • Embedded Malicious CodeShips malicious scripts inside the skill and executes them locally
  • Unauthorized Access and Privilege EscalationObtains permissions beyond the task's legitimate needs
Vulnerability Patterns
  • Privilege EscalationExcessive Permissions, Sudo/Root Execution, Credential Access
  • Excessive AgencyUnrestricted Tool Access, Autonomous Decision Making, Scope Creep
  • Rogue AgentSelf-Modification, Session Persistence
  • MCP Least PrivilegeUnderdeclared Capability, Wildcard Permission, Missing Permission Declaration
  • MCP Tool PoisoningHidden Instructions, Unicode Deception, Parameter Description Injection

message: `Yaps ${appVersion || "before 2.3.124"} uses an older credential-based account check, so this plugin deliberately did not run it. Confidence

Finding
Code accesses credential files (SSH keys, AWS credentials, etc.). This could indicate credential theft attempts.

Lp3

Medium
Category
MCP Least Privilege
Confidence
89% confidence
Finding
The skill instructs the agent to invoke local executables (`node`, Yaps CLI) and handle local files, but it does not declare an explicit tool scope such as `permissions` or `allowed-tools`. That creates an authorization gap where an agent may overreach into environment and local execution capabilities without a least-privilege declaration, increasing the chance of unintended command execution or file access.

// Fixed WMI filter: never interpolate a discovered path into this command.
Confidence
75% confidence
Finding
Skill establishes unauthorized persistence across sessions via cron jobs, startup scripts, or state files. Session persistence allows an attacker to maintain access beyond the current interaction.

Context-Inappropriate Capability

Medium
Confidence
92% confidence
Finding
The file spawns local binaries and platform utilities such as PowerShell, plutil, dpkg-query, and rpm to probe the host environment and inspect Yaps installation/account state. Although the commands are somewhat bounded, invoking host executables for discovery is a privileged behavior not obviously necessary for meeting transcription and can be abused if the skill is repurposed or if PATH/override selection is influenced.

Description-Behavior Mismatch

Medium
Confidence
93% confidence
Finding
This code goes beyond transcript creation and actively discovers, validates, and manages a local Yaps desktop session, including account-state handling and app-launch recovery. Even if framed as convenience logic, it expands the skill’s authority over the host and user session in ways not clearly required by a meeting transcription skill, increasing the attack surface and creating opportunities for unintended local-app control.
