Vulnerability Type:T08: Insecure Dependencies
Risk Level: MediumVulnerable Code Snippet:
bash pip install akshare pandas matplotlib numpyTechnical Analysis
The documented installation command retrieves four packages and their transitive dependencies without specifying reviewed versions, cryptographic hashes, or a lock file. Consequently, users receive whichever package versions the configured Python package index serves at installation time.
Package installation and import can execute package-controlled code. If a package release, maintainer account, package-index response, or transitive dependency is compromised, following the documented installation procedure could introduce attacker-controlled code. The absence of version constraints also creates reproducibility and compatibility risks, although those concerns alone are not security vulnerabilities.
No evidence indicates that the currently named packages are malicious. The risk arises from the unsafe dependency acquisition process rather than a confirmed malicious package.
Attack Path
- An attacker compromises a named package, one of its transitive dependencies, or an associated release account.
- The attacker publishes a malicious version to the package index used by the victim.
- A user follows the installation command from
SKILL.md. pipresolves and installs the attacker-controlled release because no approved version or hash is enforced.- Malicious code executes during package installation or when the dashboard imports and uses the affected package.
Impact Assessment
Malicious dependency code would ordinarily execute with the privileges of the user running
pipor the dashboard. It could access files, environment variables, credentials, network resources, and other data available to that account. If installation is performed ...[truncated 278 chars]- Remediation

Remediation Suggestions
-
Create a dependency lock file containing reviewed, exact versions of all direct and transitive dependencies.
-
Generate and verify cryptographic hashes for every distribution.
-
Install dependencies using a command such as:
bash python -m pip install --require-hashes -r requirements.txt -
Configure an explicitly trusted package index or an internally controlled package mirror.
-
Run dependency vulnerability and provenance checks in continuous integration.
-
Install and execute the application in an isolated virtual environment or container under a non-privileged account.
-
Establish a controlled update process in which dependency upgrades are reviewed, tested, scanned, and then committed with updated hashes.
