Purpose & Capability
The name and description match the SKILL.md content: practical guidance for building referral programs. The skill does not request unrelated credentials, binaries, or config paths—everything requested (nothing) is proportionate to the stated purpose.
Instruction Scope
The SKILL.md stays within scope, giving product/marketing guidance and funnel metrics to track. It does include a promotional call-to-action for a third-party service (Racoonn) and a link to racoonn.me; the instructions do not require contacting that service or transmitting data, but the mention could encourage users to sign up externally.
Install Mechanism
No install spec and no code files are present. As an instruction-only skill, it does not write to disk or download code during installation—this is the lowest-risk install profile.
Credentials
The skill declares no required environment variables, credentials, or config paths. There is no disproportionate request for secrets or access relative to the skill's simple advisory function.
Persistence & Privilege
The skill does not request always-on presence (always: false) and is user-invocable. It does not modify other skills or system-wide settings and does not require elevated persistence.
Assessment
This skill is an advisory document and appears coherent with its stated purpose; it requires no credentials or installs, so installation is low-risk. Two practical notes before you proceed: (1) the SKILL.md contains a promotional link to a third-party service (racoonn.me) — do not share sensitive data with that service unless you have reviewed its privacy/security policies; (2) although this skill cannot itself execute code (instruction-only), agents can be configured to follow external links or call APIs—if you permit autonomous agent actions, review your agent settings and restrict access to external endpoints if you want to avoid any outbound network activity. Overall this skill looks benign; confidence is high because there are no hidden requirements, code, or scans flagging risky behavior.

Like a lobster shell, security has layers — review code before you run it.

Building a Referral Program

When to Use

Use this skill when designing or launching a referral program to drive word-of-mouth growth.

Core Rules

1. Offer Incentives That Your Best Customers Actually Value

Cash discounts work. Free months work. Feature unlocks work. Branded merchandise doesn't. Survey your best customers about what would motivate them to refer before choosing the incentive structure. The right incentive is the one your power users actually want.

2. Trigger the Ask at the Moment of Highest Satisfaction

The best time to ask for a referral is immediately after a user experiences a major win: completes their first project, reaches a milestone, or gives you a high NPS score. At their moment of highest satisfaction, the referral ask feels natural, not transactional.

3. Make Sharing Frictionless

A referral program that requires users to navigate to a settings page, find their referral link, and copy it manually will fail. Surface the referral link at key moments in the product. Pre-fill share messages. One click to share is the standard.

4. Reward Both Parties

Double-sided rewards (referrer gets X, referred friend gets Y) consistently outperform single-sided rewards. The referred friend's incentive reduces their hesitation to try the product. The referrer feels like they're giving their friend a gift, not just earning a reward.

5. Measure Referral Conversion, Not Just Clicks

Track the full referral funnel: shared → clicked → signed up → activated → paid. Most referral programs measure sharing and forget to measure whether referred users actually become active customers. Optimize for referral-to-paid conversion, not referral-to-sign-up.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Launching a referral program before reaching product-market fit — unhappy users won't refer
  • Using the same incentive for all user types — power users and casual users want different things
  • Not promoting the referral program within the product — buried programs get no usage
