Security audit

Api Tester

Security checks for vulnerabilities and agentic risk

Overview

This skill is a straightforward user-directed API testing helper, but users should take care with tokens and payloads they send through it.

Install only if you want an agent-accessible HTTP client. Use it with trusted endpoints, prefer test tokens over production credentials, avoid sending unnecessary sensitive data, and be careful with HTTP URLs because headers and payloads may travel without transport encryption.

Vulnerability Patterns
  • Skill Instruction HijackingAlters the agent's session goals or safety constraints when the skill loads
  • Agent Memory PoisoningWrites attacker-controlled rules into memory that affect later sessions
  • Remote Payload Retrieval and ExecutionFetches external code whose behavior can change after review
  • Embedded Malicious CodeShips malicious scripts inside the skill and executes them locally
  • Unauthorized Access and Privilege EscalationObtains permissions beyond the task's legitimate needs
Vulnerability Patterns
  • Data ExfiltrationExternal Transmission, Env Variable Harvesting, File System Enumeration
  • Prompt InjectionInstruction Override, Hidden Instructions, Exfiltration Commands
  • Privilege EscalationExcessive Permissions, Sudo/Root Execution, Credential Access
  • Supply ChainUnpinned Dependencies, External Script Fetching, Obfuscated Code
  • Excessive AgencyUnrestricted Tool Access, Autonomous Decision Making, Scope Creep

Missing User Warnings

Finding

The skill is explicitly designed to send HTTP/HTTPS requests with custom headers and JSON bodies, but the description does not warn users that secrets such as bearer tokens, API keys, cookies, and request payload data may be transmitted to external services. In an agent setting, this omission increases the chance that users or upstream tooling will pass sensitive data to untrusted endpoints without informed consent.

External Transmission

Data Exfiltration
Confidence

Finding

Data is being sent to an external URL. This could be legitimate telemetry or data exfiltration. Manual review is recommended.

javascript
const api = require('skills/api-tester');
const result = await api.request('GET', 'https://api.example.com/data');
console.log(result.status, result.data);

External Transmission

Data Exfiltration

Finding

This example demonstrates transmitting an Authorization header to an external service without any cautionary guidance. While the endpoint is a placeholder, the documented pattern normalizes sending credentials and payloads off-box, which can lead to accidental secret disclosure when users substitute real tokens and production endpoints.
