Astro Life Insights

Security checks for vulnerabilities and agentic risk

Overview

This astrology skill runs locally and is purpose-aligned, but users should know it stores birth-chart data in their home config and one documented command is missing from the package.

Before installing, be comfortable entering birth date, birth time, and birthplace into a local config file under your home directory. Use the lockfile for reproducible npm installs, and do not rely on the documented upcoming.js command unless the publisher adds that missing file. The optional dashboard execSync snippet should be adapted carefully if used in a server context.

Vulnerability Patterns
  • Skill Instruction HijackingAlters the agent's session goals or safety constraints when the skill loads
  • Agent Memory PoisoningWrites attacker-controlled rules into memory that affect later sessions
  • Remote Payload Retrieval and ExecutionFetches external code whose behavior can change after review
  • Embedded Malicious CodeShips malicious scripts inside the skill and executes them locally
  • Unauthorized Access and Privilege EscalationObtains permissions beyond the task's legitimate needs
Vulnerability Patterns
  • Supply ChainUnpinned Dependencies, External Script Fetching, Obfuscated Code
  • MCP Least PrivilegeUnderdeclared Capability, Wildcard Permission, Missing Permission Declaration
  • MCP Tool PoisoningHidden Instructions, Unicode Deception, Parameter Description Injection
  • Prompt InjectionInstruction Override, Hidden Instructions, Exfiltration Commands
  • Data ExfiltrationExternal Transmission, Env Variable Harvesting, File System Enumeration

Category
MCP Tool Poisoning
Confidence
95% confidence
Finding

This second mismatch finding reinforces that the skill description advertises astronomy-engine transit interpretation, natal chart usage, and positive life-area insights, while the code reportedly uses different calculations and only outputs raw positions. Such deceptive or inaccurate packaging is dangerous because users may expose personal birth data under false assumptions and integrators may rely on outputs that do not satisfy the claimed function.

Undeclared Tool Scope

MCP Least Privilege
Confidence
70% confidence
Finding

Without declared permissions the skill's intent is opaque and cannot be validated.

Missing User Warnings

Low
Category
Not specified by scanner
Confidence
78% confidence
Finding

The script reads a natal-chart JSON file from the user's home directory, which contains personal birth-date information, but provides no user-facing notice beyond a missing-file error. For code files, access to sensitive user data should have some visible disclosure unless clearly surfaced elsewhere; this file does not include such a warning for the data read.

Natural-Language Policy Violations

Low
Category
Not specified by scanner
Confidence
95% confidence
Finding

The code explicitly formats the displayed date using toLocaleDateString('en-US', ...), which hard-codes a specific locale in user-facing output. This is a natural-language/locale policy concern because the skill does not offer user opt-in or explain why US English formatting is required.

Unpinned Dependencies

Low
Category
Supply Chain
Confidence
90% confidence
Finding

The dependency uses a caret range (^2.1.19), which permits automatic installation of newer minor/patch releases. This can introduce supply-chain risk because future upstream changes or a compromised release could be pulled in without explicit review, reducing build reproducibility and making unexpected vulnerable versions easier to consume.
