Open Cve Scanner

Security checks for vulnerabilities and agentic risk

Overview

This vulnerability scanner largely does what it claims, but it also has under-disclosed LLM credential handling and report-generation risks that users should review before installing.

Review and disable or constrain the LLM ecosystem detection before use, especially in workspaces with shared .env files or generic LLM credentials. Prefer explicit ecosystems, pin and hash dependencies before installing in sensitive environments, and treat generated CSV/XLSX reports as untrusted unless formula fields are sanitized.

Vulnerability Patterns
  • Unauthorized Access and Privilege EscalationObtains permissions beyond the task's legitimate needs
  • Insecure DependenciesIntroduces malicious components through unsafe dependency sources
  • Insecure Skill Coding PracticesFinds exploitable flaws such as hardcoded secrets or command injection
  • Skill Instruction HijackingAlters the agent's session goals or safety constraints when the skill loads
  • Agent Memory PoisoningWrites attacker-controlled rules into memory that affect later sessions

Each installation can therefore resolve to a different future release from the configured Python package index. This design prevents reproducible builds and allows newly released dependency versions to enter the Skill's execution environment without project review. If a dependency maintainer account, package release process, or configured package index is compromised, a later installation may retrieve malicious code. Python package installation can execute build-backend or setup behavior. Runtime dependencies also execute with the privileges of the scanner process after installation. Although the listed package names are established packages and no typosquatting was identified, unconstrained future resolution unnecessarily expands the supply-chain trust boundary. ### Attack Path 1. A listed dependency release or the configured Python package index is compromised. 2. A malicious version is published with a version satisfying the broad lower-bound constraint. 3. A user follows the documented `pip install -r requirements.txt` instruction. 4. `pip` resolves the malicious version because no exact pin or hash restricts it. 5. Malicious installation-time code executes, or malicious runtime code is imported when the scanner starts. 6. The code runs with the filesystem, environment, network, and credential access of the user running the installation or scanner. # ...[truncated 620 chars]

Finding

The file pins Django to 3.2.0, and the static analysis indicates numerous published advisories affecting that version, including SQL injection and denial-of-service/resource exhaustion issues. Because this skill is specifically for open-source vulnerability scanning, shipping a dependency list with known vulnerable versions is especially risky: it may normalize unsafe versions in testing, examples, or downstream automation and could lead users to deploy or scan against insecure baselines.

Finding

The skill description materially misrepresents behavior: it claims production vulnerability scanning, multi-source advisory lookups, report generation, and dependency-file analysis, while the analyzed implementation reportedly lacks those functions and instead performs other tasks such as testing, ecosystem classification, caching, or external lookups. This is dangerous because operators may trust the skill to perform security validation it does not actually perform, leading to false assurance, missed vulnerabilities, unreviewed data flows to external services, and use of undeclared capabilities.

Known Vulnerable Dependency: numpy==1.19.0 — 3 advisory(ies): GHSA-6p56-wp2h-9hxr; GHSA-fpfv-jqm9-f5jm; PYSEC-2021-856

High

Confidence
90% confidence
Finding

The file includes numpy==1.19.0, which is flagged with multiple security advisories. Even if this is only a sample requirements file, retaining a known-vulnerable scientific library can expose consumers to memory-safety or denial-of-service style issues in environments that process untrusted data, and it undermines trust in a security-focused skill.
