Tailscale

Security checks for vulnerabilities and agentic risk

Overview

This is a legitimate Tailscale management skill, but it includes high-impact admin actions and setup guidance that users should review carefully before use.

Review the oo CLI installer source or use a verified installation path before running setup, and require explicit approval for any Tailscale change, especially secret rotation, credential creation, policy changes, DNS/routing changes, user suspension, or deletion.

Vulnerability Patterns
  • Skill Instruction HijackingAlters the agent's session goals or safety constraints when the skill loads
  • Agent Memory PoisoningWrites attacker-controlled rules into memory that affect later sessions
  • Remote Payload Retrieval and ExecutionFetches external code whose behavior can change after review
  • Embedded Malicious CodeShips malicious scripts inside the skill and executes them locally
  • Unauthorized Access and Privilege EscalationObtains permissions beyond the task's legitimate needs
Vulnerability Patterns
  • Supply ChainUnpinned Dependencies, External Script Fetching, Obfuscated Code
  • Trigger AbuseOverly Broad Trigger, Shadow Command Trigger, Keyword Baiting Trigger
  • Prompt InjectionInstruction Override, Hidden Instructions, Exfiltration Commands
  • Data ExfiltrationExternal Transmission, Env Variable Harvesting, File System Enumeration
  • Privilege EscalationExcessive Permissions, Sudo/Root Execution, Credential Access

Finding

The skill instructs users to install software via a remote script piped directly into a shell, which is a classic supply-chain risk. If the hosting domain, transport, or script contents are compromised, arbitrary code would execute immediately on the user's machine; in this skill context, the risk is increased because the command is presented as a fallback operational step inside trusted setup instructions.

Finding

The description says to use this skill for "ANY Tailscale request" and "Whenever a task involves Tailscale," which is a very broad activation condition. It does not provide narrower trigger scope, exclusions, or negative examples, so ordinary mentions of Tailscale could match unintentionally.
