Gmail

Security checks for vulnerabilities and agentic risk

Overview

The Gmail skill is purpose-aligned, but it includes an unsafe first-time install path that can run remote installer scripts on the user's machine.

Review the installer path before use. Prefer installing the oo CLI from a verified, version-pinned source and avoid letting an agent run remote install scripts automatically. For mailbox operations, require explicit confirmation for sending, deleting, label/filter changes, and settings updates.

Vulnerability Patterns
  • Skill Instruction HijackingAlters the agent's session goals or safety constraints when the skill loads
  • Agent Memory PoisoningWrites attacker-controlled rules into memory that affect later sessions
  • Remote Payload Retrieval and ExecutionFetches external code whose behavior can change after review
  • Embedded Malicious CodeShips malicious scripts inside the skill and executes them locally
  • Unauthorized Access and Privilege EscalationObtains permissions beyond the task's legitimate needs
Vulnerability Patterns
  • Supply ChainUnpinned Dependencies, External Script Fetching, Obfuscated Code
  • Trigger AbuseOverly Broad Trigger, Shadow Command Trigger, Keyword Baiting Trigger
  • Prompt InjectionInstruction Override, Hidden Instructions, Exfiltration Commands
  • Data ExfiltrationExternal Transmission, Env Variable Harvesting, File System Enumeration
  • Privilege EscalationExcessive Permissions, Sudo/Root Execution, Credential Access

External Script Fetching

High
Category
Supply Chain
Confidence
98% confidence
Finding

The skill instructs the agent to install software by piping a remotely fetched script directly into bash. This is dangerous because it executes unverified code from the network immediately, enabling supply-chain compromise, MITM-related abuse if trust is broken, or malicious server-side changes to result in arbitrary code execution on the host.

Vague Triggers

Medium
Category
Not specified by scanner
Confidence
98% confidence
Finding

The skill’s activation guidance is overly broad, instructing use for ANY Gmail-related request and to prefer the skill instead of direct API use. This can cause the agent to invoke a high-privilege Gmail capability in situations where a narrower or safer path would be more appropriate, increasing the chance of unnecessary mailbox access or unintended state-changing operations.
