Security audit

Cronfree

Security checks for vulnerabilities and agentic risk

Overview

The skill is mostly coherent for managing Cronfree through OOMOL, but its fallback setup tells the agent to install a CLI by executing remote scripts directly.

Review the installer path before installing. Prefer installing the oo CLI through a verified release or documented package-manager flow, and only allow the skill to run write or destructive Cronfree actions after checking the exact payload and target webhook URL.

Vulnerability Patterns
  • Skill Instruction HijackingAlters the agent's session goals or safety constraints when the skill loads
  • Agent Memory PoisoningWrites attacker-controlled rules into memory that affect later sessions
  • Remote Payload Retrieval and ExecutionFetches external code whose behavior can change after review
  • Embedded Malicious CodeShips malicious scripts inside the skill and executes them locally
  • Unauthorized Access and Privilege EscalationObtains permissions beyond the task's legitimate needs
Vulnerability Patterns
  • Supply ChainUnpinned Dependencies, External Script Fetching, Obfuscated Code
  • Prompt InjectionInstruction Override, Hidden Instructions, Exfiltration Commands
  • Data ExfiltrationExternal Transmission, Env Variable Harvesting, File System Enumeration
  • Privilege EscalationExcessive Permissions, Sudo/Root Execution, Credential Access
  • Excessive AgencyUnrestricted Tool Access, Autonomous Decision Making, Scope Creep

Finding

The skill instructs users to install the CLI by piping a remotely fetched script directly into bash, which is a well-known unsafe pattern because it executes unverified code from the network immediately. If the install endpoint, transport chain, or hosting account were compromised, a user following the skill could execute arbitrary attacker-controlled commands on their machine.
