AI Search by Desearch

Security checks for vulnerabilities and agentic risk

Overview

This skill is a straightforward Desearch-powered search helper, with expected third-party API use and no evidence of hidden persistence, destructive behavior, or unrelated data access.

Install only if you are comfortable using Desearch as a third-party search provider. Do not submit private or sensitive queries unless you intend them to be processed by Desearch, and store DESEARCH_API_KEY as a normal secret rather than hardcoding it.

Vulnerability Patterns
  • Skill Instruction HijackingAlters the agent's session goals or safety constraints when the skill loads
  • Agent Memory PoisoningWrites attacker-controlled rules into memory that affect later sessions
  • Remote Payload Retrieval and ExecutionFetches external code whose behavior can change after review
  • Embedded Malicious CodeShips malicious scripts inside the skill and executes them locally
  • Unauthorized Access and Privilege EscalationObtains permissions beyond the task's legitimate needs
Vulnerability Patterns
  • Data ExfiltrationExternal Transmission, Env Variable Harvesting, File System Enumeration
  • MCP Least PrivilegeUnderdeclared Capability, Wildcard Permission, Missing Permission Declaration
  • Prompt InjectionInstruction Override, Hidden Instructions, Exfiltration Commands
  • Privilege EscalationExcessive Permissions, Sudo/Root Execution, Credential Access
  • Supply ChainUnpinned Dependencies, External Script Fetching, Obfuscated Code

Undeclared Tool Scope

Medium
Category
MCP Least Privilege
Confidence
88% confidence
Finding

The skill requires an environment secret (DESEARCH_API_KEY) and performs outbound network-backed search operations, but it does not declare an explicit tool scope such as permissions or allowed-tools. This creates a policy/visibility gap: callers and enforcement layers may not have a clear, machine-readable restriction on secret access and network use, increasing the chance of over-privileged execution or unexpected data egress.

Missing User Warnings

Medium

Not specified by scanner
Confidence
88% confidence
Finding

This code reads a credential from DESEARCH_API_KEY and sends requests containing the user's query to https://api.desearch.ai. While the module docstring mentions the API key is required, there is no confirmation prompt, user-facing disclosure at execution time, or comment/docstring warning that query contents and authentication data are transmitted to a third-party service.
