Cruit Recruiter

Security checks for vulnerabilities and agentic risk

Overview

The skill has a coherent recruiting purpose, but it relies on unverified remote installer and instruction updates that can change what the agent trusts after review.

Review this before installing. The recruiting workflow itself is clear and approval-gated, but install only if you trust cruit.dev to serve both installer code and future skill instructions. Prefer marketplace-native installation or a downloaded, reviewed, version-pinned installer, and know that ~/.cruit/credentials.json can grant access to your recruiter account if exposed.

Vulnerability Patterns
  • Skill Instruction HijackingAlters the agent's session goals or safety constraints when the skill loads
  • Remote Payload Retrieval and ExecutionFetches external code whose behavior can change after review
  • Agent Memory PoisoningWrites attacker-controlled rules into memory that affect later sessions
  • Embedded Malicious CodeShips malicious scripts inside the skill and executes them locally
  • Unauthorized Access and Privilege EscalationObtains permissions beyond the task's legitimate needs

It does not validate a release version, signature, cryptographic digest, expected content type, or trusted manifest. File permissions protect the files after installation but do not establish that their contents were authentic when downloaded. The installer also supports `CRUIT_SITE_BASE` and `--site-base`, including a documented plain-HTTP localhost development mode. That flexibility is useful for local development, but it means the content source is configurable and should not be treated as authenticated production content without additional controls. Credential Access

High
Category
Privilege Escalation
Confidence
84% confidence
Finding

The skill is designed to read and write a local credentials file containing bearer tokens, which creates a credential-handling surface inside the agent. Even though this is functional for authentication reuse, local token storage increases the blast radius if the host is compromised, file permissions are misapplied, or other skills/processes can access the same path.

Credential Access

High
Category
Privilege Escalation
Confidence
90% confidence
Finding

The skill explicitly instructs the agent to persist an access token to disk in JSON. Bearer tokens generally grant direct authenticated API access, so theft of the file can allow account takeover of recruiter functions, including subscription actions, candidate searches, contact reveals, and outbound messaging.

External Script Fetching

High
Category
Supply Chain
Confidence
98% confidence
Finding

The README instructs users to fetch a remote shell script and immediately execute it via a pipe to sh. This is dangerous because it provides no opportunity to inspect the script, pin its contents, or verify integrity, so compromise of cruit.dev, its distribution path, or transport termination could lead to arbitrary code execution on the user's machine.

Chaining Abuse

High
Category
Tool Misuse
Confidence
97% confidence
Finding

The | sh chaining pattern is itself the unsafe execution step that turns a remote content fetch into immediate command execution. In the context of a recruiter skill that stores credentials under ~/.cruit/, a malicious or altered installer could steal tokens, modify agent configuration, or establish persistence with little user visibility.

Credential Access

High
Category
Privilege Escalation
Confidence
70% confidence
Finding

Code accesses credential files (SSH keys, AWS credentials, etc.). This could indicate credential theft attempts.

## Paid Actions

Tp4

High
Category
MCP Tool Poisoning
Confidence
98% confidence
Finding

The public description frames the skill as recruiter search and outreach, but the body instructs the agent to fetch remote instructions, install/update state locally, and write files under the user's home directory. Hidden or under-declared side effects increase the chance of users invoking the skill without understanding it will modify local state and trust remote content.

Content

Hidden Instructions

High
Category
Prompt Injection
Confidence
91% confidence
Finding

The skill contains a hidden snapshot/comment structure and, more importantly, instructs the agent to fetch canonical instructions from a remote URL on every run and prefer them over the local file. That creates a remote-instruction trust channel not visible in the high-level description, enabling behavior changes without local review and increasing prompt-injection/supply-chain risk.

Credential Access

High
Category
Privilege Escalation
Confidence
89% confidence
Finding

The skill instructs the agent to access a local credentials file in the user's home directory. Even though this is functionally necessary for auth reuse, credential-file access is sensitive because compromise of the skill, overbroad tooling, or accidental disclosure could expose bearer tokens that grant recruiter access and candidate-data operations.

Credential Access

High
Category
Privilege Escalation
Confidence

The skill explicitly handles and persists an access token, which is a high-value secret. Any prompt injection, logging leak, or excessive tool access could lead to token theft and unauthorized API calls, including access to recruiter account data and candidate contact actions.

Session Persistence

Medium
Category
Rogue Agent
Confidence
78% confidence
Finding

This instruction establishes persistent session state under a predictable filesystem path. While user-only permissions help, persistent auth material and recruiter state can still be exposed through local compromise, backup leakage, multi-user misconfiguration, or unsafe agent/plugin access to the same home directory.

Undeclared Tool Scope

Medium
Category
MCP Least Privilege
Confidence
92% confidence
Finding

The skill directs the agent to perform network requests, local file reads/writes, and authentication-token handling, but it does not declare an explicit tool/permission scope. That mismatch weakens sandboxing and user awareness because the agent may use shell-capable operations beyond what the manifest communicates.

Content

No source excerpt is available for this finding.

Vague Triggers

Medium
Category
Not specified by scanner
Confidence
92% confidence
Finding

The invocation description includes broad phrases like recruiting, sourcing, finding developers, setup, revealing contacts, and messaging, which can cause the skill to trigger in loosely related conversations. Over-broad auto-invocation is risky here because the skill performs network access, reads local files, and can eventually spend credits or expose candidate data.

Session Persistence

Medium
Category
Rogue Agent
Confidence
87% confidence
Finding

The skill creates a persistent directory and stores recruiter state under the user's home directory, including auth and context metadata. Persistent state expands the blast radius of compromise because sensitive recruiter configuration and historical usage can remain available across sessions and may be accessed by other tools or future prompts.
