Purpose & Capability
The skill promises keyword volume estimates, backlink strategies, and technical SEO signals. Those capabilities typically require access to search/SEO APIs (Ahrefs, SEMrush, Moz), SERP data, or site-crawling tools. SKILL.md requests only URLs and a goal and declares no tools, installs, or credentials. That mismatch means the skill either expects the agent to (a) approximate data from public pages (limited/less accurate) or (b) perform web scraping or use undisclosed third-party services — neither of which is documented or reflected in requirements.
Instruction Scope
The instructions are high-level and do not instruct the agent to read local files or environment variables; they ask for user-provided URLs and a goal, then say 'perform structured analysis'. This open-ended phrasing grants broad discretion to the agent about how to fetch and aggregate data (e.g., live web requests, scraping SERPs, calling external APIs). While not inherently malicious, the vagueness means behavior (network calls, which external endpoints, rate limits, data retention) is unspecified and could be surprising to users.
Install Mechanism
Instruction-only skill with no install specification and no code files. This is the lowest-risk install model because nothing is written to disk by default.
Credentials
The skill declares no environment variables, credentials, or config paths. Given the need for accurate backlink data and search volume, that's unexpected: legitimate full-featured SEO analysis typically requires API keys or integrations. The absence of declared credentials could indicate the skill will either provide lower-fidelity analysis or attempt unauthenticated scraping; neither is documented.
Persistence & Privilege
No 'always: true' or other elevated persistence requested. The skill is user-invocable and allows normal autonomous invocation (platform default). There is no request to modify other skills or system-wide settings.
What to consider before installing
This skill looks like a helpful SEO analyst template, but it doesn't say how it will get search volumes, backlink data, or technical metrics. Before installing or using it: (1) Ask the developer what data sources or APIs it relies on and whether you need to provide API keys (Ahrefs, SEMrush, Google Search Console, etc.). (2) Expect the agent may perform live web requests or scraping — decide whether you're comfortable with that and check for rate-limit or TOS risks. (3) Request a sample report or a step-by-step explanation of the exact web calls the skill will make. (4) If the skill later asks you to paste API keys or tokens, only provide them after confirming the intended provider and why it's required. If you need guaranteed, high-fidelity backlink/volume data, prefer a skill that explicitly declares required integrations and credentials.

Like a lobster shell, security has layers — review code before you run it.

SEO Competitor Analyzer

Deep-dive analysis of competitor websites to uncover keyword gaps, content opportunities, and SEO weaknesses. Outputs a prioritized action plan you can execute immediately.

When to use

Use this skill when the user needs to:

  • Understand why competitors rank higher
  • Find untapped keyword opportunities in their niche
  • Audit a competitor's content strategy
  • Identify backlink and authority gaps
  • Build a data-driven SEO content calendar
  • Evaluate a new niche before entering it

How it works

  1. Ask for the user's website URL (or niche if no site yet)
  2. Ask for 2–5 competitor URLs to analyze
  3. Ask for their primary goal (rank higher / find content gaps / build backlinks / enter new niche)
  4. Perform structured analysis across 6 dimensions
  5. Output prioritized recommendations with effort/impact scores

Analysis Dimensions

1. Content Gap Analysis

  • Topics competitors cover that the user does not
  • Identify thin content opportunities (low word count, low competition)
  • Find featured snippet opportunities (questions, lists, definitions)
  • Map content by funnel stage (awareness / consideration / decision)

2. Keyword Strategy Breakdown

  • Infer primary and secondary keywords from page titles, H1s, meta descriptions
  • Identify keyword clusters competitors are targeting
  • Flag high-volume, low-competition gaps
  • Note keywords where multiple competitors rank but the user does not

3. On-Page SEO Audit (per competitor)

  • Title tag format and length patterns
  • Meta description quality and CTR optimization
  • URL structure and slug patterns
  • Internal linking strategy
  • Schema markup usage
  • Image optimization signals

4. Content Quality Assessment

  • Average word count for top-ranking pages
  • Content freshness (update frequency signals)
  • Use of multimedia (images, video, tables, lists)
  • E-E-A-T signals (author bios, citations, expertise markers)
  • Readability and structure analysis

5. Technical SEO Signals

  • Page speed indicators (Core Web Vitals hints)
  • Mobile-first signals
  • HTTPS status
  • Sitemap and robots.txt structure
  • Crawlability signals

6. Opportunity Scoring

Rate each opportunity on:

  • Search Volume Potential: High / Medium / Low
  • Competition Level: Hard / Medium / Easy
  • Implementation Effort: 1–5 (1 = quick win)
  • Expected Impact: 1–5 (5 = transformational)
  • Priority Score: (Impact × Volume) ÷ Effort
