Security audit

Google Trends Api

Security checks for vulnerabilities and agentic risk

Overview

This skill is a clearly scoped Google Trends wrapper that reads one API key, calls a fixed ScraperSocial API host, and prints JSON without persistence or file mutation.

Install only if you are comfortable providing a ScraperSocial API key and spending ScraperSocial credits when the scripts are run. The skill sends that key as a bearer token to api.scrapersocial.com and returns public trend data as JSON.

Vulnerability Patterns
  • Skill Instruction HijackingAlters the agent's session goals or safety constraints when the skill loads
  • Agent Memory PoisoningWrites attacker-controlled rules into memory that affect later sessions
  • Remote Payload Retrieval and ExecutionFetches external code whose behavior can change after review
  • Embedded Malicious CodeShips malicious scripts inside the skill and executes them locally
  • Unauthorized Access and Privilege EscalationObtains permissions beyond the task's legitimate needs
Vulnerability Patterns
  • Excessive AgencyUnrestricted Tool Access, Autonomous Decision Making, Scope Creep
  • MCP Least PrivilegeUnderdeclared Capability, Wildcard Permission, Missing Permission Declaration
  • MCP Tool PoisoningHidden Instructions, Unicode Deception, Parameter Description Injection
  • Prompt InjectionInstruction Override, Hidden Instructions, Exfiltration Commands
  • Data ExfiltrationExternal Transmission, Env Variable Harvesting, File System Enumeration

MCP Tool Poisoning

Finding

The supplied code only exposes a single 'explore' endpoint that accepts a query and forwards it to /v1/google_trends/explore. The declared description claims broader Google Trends functionality, specifically interest-over-time exploration and rising related queries. Those capabilities are not present or demonstrated in this chunk. While the code is related to Google Trends, the declared description overstates what this specific code actually does.

Autonomous Decision Making

Medium
Category
Excessive Agency
Confidence
75% confidence
Finding

Skill enables autonomous high-impact decisions without human-in-the-loop verification. Critical operations (destructive commands, financial transactions, data deletion) should require explicit user confirmation.

### Do not use this skill when

- **You need absolute search volume.** Trends returns relative interest, indexed to 100 — it is not a volume estimate, and no endpoint here converts it into one.
- **You need per-result cheapness.** `explore` costs 6 credits, the priciest non-AI call in this repo outside the video endpoints. Do not loop it over a large keyword list without checking the budget.
