Open Notebook Skill

Security checks for vulnerabilities and agentic risk

Overview

This skill is a small, disclosed local open-notebook integration that saves user-provided notes to a local notebook service.

Install only if you intend agents to store selected research notes in your local open-notebook instance. Do not submit passwords, API keys, regulated data, or proprietary material unless your local open-notebook storage, access controls, and retention practices are acceptable.

Vulnerability Patterns
  • Skill Instruction HijackingAlters the agent's session goals or safety constraints when the skill loads
  • Agent Memory PoisoningWrites attacker-controlled rules into memory that affect later sessions
  • Remote Payload Retrieval and ExecutionFetches external code whose behavior can change after review
  • Embedded Malicious CodeShips malicious scripts inside the skill and executes them locally
  • Unauthorized Access and Privilege EscalationObtains permissions beyond the task's legitimate needs
Vulnerability Patterns
  • Data ExfiltrationExternal Transmission, Env Variable Harvesting, File System Enumeration
  • Prompt InjectionInstruction Override, Hidden Instructions, Exfiltration Commands
  • Privilege EscalationExcessive Permissions, Sudo/Root Execution, Credential Access
  • Supply ChainUnpinned Dependencies, External Script Fetching, Obfuscated Code
  • Excessive AgencyUnrestricted Tool Access, Autonomous Decision Making, Scope Creep

Finding

The skill explicitly encourages saving and querying knowledge across sessions via HTTP endpoints on localhost, but it does not warn users that submitted notebook content is transmitted to a local API and persisted. This can lead agents or operators to send sensitive prompts, credentials, or proprietary data under the mistaken assumption that the integration is ephemeral or purely in-memory.
