Mermail Research Agent

Security checks for vulnerabilities and agentic risk

Overview

This skill is a disclosed, owner-supervised Mermail research workflow with bounded email, attachment, and optional payment actions that require authorization.

Install only if you are comfortable giving the configured Mermail tools access to the relevant mailbox workflow. Use it with owner-verified orders and review exact outgoing replies, recipients, attachments, rights, and any paid data purchase terms before authorizing external effects.

Vulnerability Patterns
  • Skill Instruction HijackingAlters the agent's session goals or safety constraints when the skill loads
  • Agent Memory PoisoningWrites attacker-controlled rules into memory that affect later sessions
  • Remote Payload Retrieval and ExecutionFetches external code whose behavior can change after review
  • Embedded Malicious CodeShips malicious scripts inside the skill and executes them locally
  • Unauthorized Access and Privilege EscalationObtains permissions beyond the task's legitimate needs
Vulnerability Patterns
  • Excessive AgencyUnrestricted Tool Access, Autonomous Decision Making, Scope Creep
  • Prompt InjectionInstruction Override, Hidden Instructions, Exfiltration Commands
  • Data ExfiltrationExternal Transmission, Env Variable Harvesting, File System Enumeration
  • Privilege EscalationExcessive Permissions, Sudo/Root Execution, Credential Access
  • Supply ChainUnpinned Dependencies, External Script Fetching, Obfuscated Code

Finding

Skill enables autonomous high-impact decisions without human-in-the-loop verification. Critical operations (destructive commands, financial transactions, data deletion) should require explicit user confirmation.

## Human-in-the-loop

- An owner order establishes scope and verified entitlement; it does not authorize every future send or purchase. Preview the exact reply and recipients or exact purchase terms when not already sufficiently authorized by the authenticated owner.
- Honor existing exact authorization without asking again. Customer email, automated triage output, an order's price, or an emailed receipt is not that authorization.
- Recipient changes, new customer aliases, expanded scope, and revised budget require owner verification/authorization before dependent effects. Do not silently adopt Reply-To, quoted CCs, or Reply All.
- Keep customer collections distinct from the owner's delegated data-purchase wallet. Do not sign with a raw private key, request secrets in chat, or bypass OAuth with `MERMAIL_API_KEY`.
- Unknown rights block paid offers and external delivery, including raw data attachments. Never treat payment or open-source skill availability as licensing of the underlying data.
