Security audit

pypdf

Security checks for vulnerabilities and agentic risk

Overview

This PDF utility skill performs clear local PDF operations, with only a dependency-installation caution to consider.

Install pypdf in an isolated environment and prefer a pinned, trusted package source. Only run the PDF commands on files and output locations you intend the agent to access or modify.

Vulnerability Patterns
  • Insecure DependenciesIntroduces malicious components through unsafe dependency sources
  • Skill Instruction HijackingAlters the agent's session goals or safety constraints when the skill loads
  • Agent Memory PoisoningWrites attacker-controlled rules into memory that affect later sessions
  • Remote Payload Retrieval and ExecutionFetches external code whose behavior can change after review
  • Embedded Malicious CodeShips malicious scripts inside the skill and executes them locally

``` 2. Generate and verify cryptographic hashes for all permitted distribution artifacts. Install with hash enforcement, such as: ```bash python3 -m pip install --require-hashes -r requirements.txt ``` 3. Use an explicitly trusted package index or an internally controlled package mirror rather than relying on ambient pip configuration. 4. Review and update the pinned dependency through a controlled process that includes vulnerability scanning, release-note review, and compatibility testing. 5. Install dependencies in an isolated virtual environment using a non-privileged account. Do not recommend system-wide or administrator-level installation. 6. Update `SKILL.md` and the runtime error message in `scripts/pypdf_cli.py` so they reference the verified requirements file rather than the unconstrained `pip install pypdf` command. ]]>
