Security audit

rez-cli

Security checks for vulnerabilities and agentic risk

Overview

This is a plain Rez command reference; it includes some powerful package-management commands, but they are disclosed and fit the stated purpose.

Install this as a command reference, not an automation policy. Before letting an agent run Rez commands from it, explicitly confirm repository-changing actions such as rez-release, rez-pip, rez-bind, rez-pkg-ignore, rez-cp, rez-mv, and rez-rm, and prefer scoped or local package paths for experiments.

Vulnerability Patterns
  • Skill Instruction HijackingAlters the agent's session goals or safety constraints when the skill loads
  • Agent Memory PoisoningWrites attacker-controlled rules into memory that affect later sessions
  • Remote Payload Retrieval and ExecutionFetches external code whose behavior can change after review
  • Embedded Malicious CodeShips malicious scripts inside the skill and executes them locally
  • Unauthorized Access and Privilege EscalationObtains permissions beyond the task's legitimate needs
Vulnerability Patterns
  • Prompt InjectionInstruction Override, Hidden Instructions, Exfiltration Commands
  • Data ExfiltrationExternal Transmission, Env Variable Harvesting, File System Enumeration
  • Privilege EscalationExcessive Permissions, Sudo/Root Execution, Credential Access
  • Supply ChainUnpinned Dependencies, External Script Fetching, Obfuscated Code
  • Excessive AgencyUnrestricted Tool Access, Autonomous Decision Making, Scope Creep

Finding

The skill lists operationally destructive or state-changing commands such as rez-release, rez-cp, rez-mv, rez-rm, rez-pkg-ignore, and rez-bind as normal reference material without clearly warning that they can deploy, move, hide, or remove packages from repositories. In an agent setting, concise command references can be turned directly into actions, so omission of safety guidance increases the chance of unintended modification of shared package infrastructure.

Finding

rez-pip install requests is presented as a simple example without noting that rez-pip creates Rez packages for the pip package and its dependencies, potentially altering package repositories and introducing unreviewed third-party code. In an automated or agent-assisted workflow, this can lead to unintended package ingestion and environment drift if treated like a harmless query command.
