Security audit

Data Source Verification

Security checks for vulnerabilities and agentic risk

Overview

This is a disclosed research workflow skill that organizes citation PDFs and provenance notes, with no executable code or hidden persistence found.

Install only if you want your agent to manage citation source folders and fetch paper PDFs for verification. Review DOI or URL inputs before downloading, and treat PDFs from unfamiliar sources as untrusted files.

Vulnerability Patterns
  • Skill Instruction HijackingAlters the agent's session goals or safety constraints when the skill loads
  • Agent Memory PoisoningWrites attacker-controlled rules into memory that affect later sessions
  • Remote Payload Retrieval and ExecutionFetches external code whose behavior can change after review
  • Embedded Malicious CodeShips malicious scripts inside the skill and executes them locally
  • Unauthorized Access and Privilege EscalationObtains permissions beyond the task's legitimate needs
Vulnerability Patterns
  • Prompt InjectionInstruction Override, Hidden Instructions, Exfiltration Commands
  • Data ExfiltrationExternal Transmission, Env Variable Harvesting, File System Enumeration
  • Privilege EscalationExcessive Permissions, Sudo/Root Execution, Credential Access
  • Supply ChainUnpinned Dependencies, External Script Fetching, Obfuscated Code
  • Excessive AgencyUnrestricted Tool Access, Autonomous Decision Making, Scope Creep

Finding

The README explicitly advertises an add <DOI or URL> command that downloads PDFs and creates local files, but it does not warn users that the skill may perform network access and write to disk. In an agent setting, hidden side effects like fetching remote content or creating folders can surprise users, expand the attack surface, and enable unsafe retrieval from attacker-controlled URLs or unintended persistence of untrusted files.
