Security audit

Linx

Security checks for vulnerabilities and agentic risk

Overview

This skill is a disclosed Linx file-upload helper that matches its stated purpose and does not show hidden or unrelated behavior.

Install this only if you want an agent to upload specific local files to your Linx instance. Use HTTPS for non-local servers, keep the API key and deletion-key logfile private, and do not ask it to upload credentials or sensitive files unless you intend to share them.

Vulnerability Patterns
  • Skill Instruction HijackingAlters the agent's session goals or safety constraints when the skill loads
  • Agent Memory PoisoningWrites attacker-controlled rules into memory that affect later sessions
  • Remote Payload Retrieval and ExecutionFetches external code whose behavior can change after review
  • Embedded Malicious CodeShips malicious scripts inside the skill and executes them locally
  • Unauthorized Access and Privilege EscalationObtains permissions beyond the task's legitimate needs
Vulnerability Patterns
  • Data ExfiltrationExternal Transmission, Env Variable Harvesting, File System Enumeration
  • Privilege EscalationExcessive Permissions, Sudo/Root Execution, Credential Access
  • Output HandlingUnvalidated Output Injection, Cross-Context Output, Unbounded Output
  • Behavioral ASTexec() Call, eval() Call, Dynamic Import
  • MCP Least PrivilegeUnderdeclared Capability, Wildcard Permission, Missing Permission Declaration
Findings (8)

Credential Access

High
Category
Privilege Escalation
Confidence
60% confidence
Finding

Code accesses credential files (SSH keys, AWS credentials, etc.). This could indicate credential theft attempts.

Unvalidated Output Injection

High
Category
Output Handling
Confidence
95% confidence
Finding

Model output is used without validation or sanitization. Unvalidated output injected into downstream contexts (SQL, shell, HTML) enables injection attacks and arbitrary code execution.

python
headers.chmod(0o600)
    target = config["siteurl"] + "upload/" + quote(args.name or file.name, safe="")
    response = Path(directory) / "response.json"
    result = subprocess.run([
        curl, "--disable", "--silent", "--show-error", "--globoff",
        "--proto", "=http,https", "--connect-timeout", "30", "--max-time", "300",
        "--header", "@" + str(headers), "--upload-file", str(file),

Env Variable Harvesting

High
Category
Data Exfiltration
Confidence
70% confidence
Finding

Code enumerates, copies, or searches environment variables for secrets. Bulk environment access can collect credentials unrelated to the skill's stated purpose.

python
thread.start()
        self.addCleanup(server.server_close)
        self.addCleanup(server.shutdown)
        self.env = {k: v for k, v in os.environ.items() if not k.startswith("LINX_")}
        self.env.update(PATH=str(self.bin), HOME=str(self.root), XDG_CONFIG_HOME=str(self.root / "config"),
                        XDG_STATE_HOME=str(self.root / "state"), LINX_URL=self.base, LINX_API_KEY="environment-key")
        self.log = self.root / "state/openclaw-linx/uploads.json"

Sudo/Root Execution

Medium
Category
Privilege Escalation
Confidence
80% confidence
Finding

Commands invoke sudo or root privileges. Verify this elevated access is necessary and justified.

Undeclared Tool Scope

Medium
Category
MCP Least Privilege
Confidence
90% confidence
Finding

The skill invokes Python, shell commands, local file access, environment-based secrets, and outbound network uploads, but it does not declare any explicit tool scope or permission boundaries. This creates a real least-privilege and governance gap: an agent may use broad capabilities without transparent constraints, increasing the chance of unintended file disclosure or misuse of configured credentials during uploads.

subprocess module call

Medium
Category
Dangerous Code Execution
Confidence
70% confidence
Finding

subprocess module calls execute external commands. Without careful input validation, this enables command injection.
