Configure Tools

Security checks for vulnerabilities and agentic risk

Overview

This skill gives guidance for configuring OpenClaw tool access and exec security, and its sensitive behavior is disclosed and aligned with that purpose.

Install only if you want an agent to help configure OpenClaw tool and exec policies. Review any generated config changes before applying them, prefer least-privilege profiles for non-main agents, and be especially careful with settings that grant full gateway exec access or turn approvals off.

Vulnerability Patterns
  • Skill Instruction HijackingAlters the agent's session goals or safety constraints when the skill loads
  • Agent Memory PoisoningWrites attacker-controlled rules into memory that affect later sessions
  • Remote Payload Retrieval and ExecutionFetches external code whose behavior can change after review
  • Embedded Malicious CodeShips malicious scripts inside the skill and executes them locally
  • Unauthorized Access and Privilege EscalationObtains permissions beyond the task's legitimate needs
Vulnerability Patterns
  • Prompt InjectionInstruction Override, Hidden Instructions, Exfiltration Commands
  • Data ExfiltrationExternal Transmission, Env Variable Harvesting, File System Enumeration
  • Privilege EscalationExcessive Permissions, Sudo/Root Execution, Credential Access
  • Supply ChainUnpinned Dependencies, External Script Fetching, Obfuscated Code
  • Excessive AgencyUnrestricted Tool Access, Autonomous Decision Making, Scope Creep

Finding
This markdown file instructs the operator to edit `~/.openclaw/openclaw.json` directly, which is a file write affecting system/tool behavior. The skill does not include any caution about backing up the file, potential misconfiguration impact, or that the change alters agent security posture.
