Security audit

Pubmed Edirect

Security checks across malware telemetry and agentic risk

Overview

This is a transparent PubMed research helper, but it requires manually installing NCBI command-line tools that contact NCBI and write local result files.

Install this only if you are comfortable reviewing and running command-line tools. Download EDirect from the official NCBI source, avoid running as root, protect any API key or email saved in shell configuration, and run examples in a dedicated workspace because they contact NCBI and can create or overwrite local output files.

Finding
The skill clearly instructs users to download and use EDirect tools that communicate with remote NCBI infrastructure, so network capability is present but not declared as a permission. This creates a transparency and policy gap: users or orchestrators may not realize the skill performs external network access and remote script retrieval, which increases supply-chain and data egress risk in an elevated-installation context.
