Max Banking

Security checks for vulnerabilities and agentic risk

Overview

This banking skill has a coherent purpose, but it can create real payment requests too automatically and expands persistent agent privileges beyond what the user is likely to expect.

Review carefully before installing. This skill should only be used if you are comfortable with an agent creating real MaxBank payment requests, storing a long-lived local banking credential, and modifying OpenClaw permissions. Prefer a version that requires explicit final confirmation before every PIX or boleto, avoids automatic payment creation from images or pasted codes, pins dependencies, restricts MCP endpoints to trusted HTTPS hosts, and removes sensitive debug output.

Vulnerability Patterns

Remediation Suggestions

  • Remove the always: true behavior for financial operations.
  • Never infer authorization solely from a payment code, number, document, or image.
  • Require an explicit user statement requesting payment before decoding or processing supplied content.
  • Add a final confirmation immediately before execution that clearly identifies the payment type, recipient or beneficiary, amount, due date where applicable, and source account.
  • Separate validation and preview operations from payment creation. Validation must never create a transaction.
  • Restrict image decoding to a user-initiated payment workflow.
  • Add transaction state and idempotency controls so repeated messages cannot create duplicate requests.
  • Ensure cancellation is possible for pending requests and clearly inform the user when a real request will be created.

Technical Analysis

The setup process modifies the persistent global OpenClaw configuration. If no tool allow-list already exists, it grants exec, process, read, write, edit, and apply_patch. It also forces execution onto the gateway host.

The banking workflow does not legitimately require broad filesystem mutation, arbitrary process control, or patching privileges. These permissions are not scoped to this Skill, so they can remain available to later Agent activity and other loaded instructions. This breaks least-privilege boundaries and increases the consequences of prompt injection or a compromised dependency.

Remediation Suggestions

  • Do not populate or expand the global Agent tool allow-list.
  • Request only the capabilities required by the Skill, preferably through a Skill-scoped permission mechanism.
  • Replace arbitrary exec access with a constrained interface that exposes only validated MaxBank operations.
  • Do not change the global execution host during setup.
  • Preserve existing user configuration and require informed consent before any security-relevant configuration change.
  • Remove unnecessary process, read, write, edit, and apply_patch permissions.
  • Add validation that rejects arbitrary command names and constrains arguments according to each banking operation.
  • Document and provide a reliable uninstall procedure that revokes any permissions previously added.

elif command -v clawhub &>/dev/null; then
  clawhub install steipete/mcporter 2>/dev/null || true
fi
echo " mcporter OK"

Technical Analysis

The setup script retrieves and installs the current version of mcporter globally without a version pin, integrity hash, lockfile, signature check, or provenance verification. It also installs a remotely sourced Skill without selecting a reviewed version.

Package installation can execute lifecycle scripts under the invoking user's privileges. Because the effective dependency can change after this project has been audited, a registry compromise, namespace takeover, malicious maintainer update, or compromised Skill release could introduce arbitrary code.

Errors are suppressed using 2>/dev/null || true, and the script prints mcporter OK even when installation failed. This obscures the actual dependency state and prevents fail-closed verification.

Attack Path

  1. An attacker compromises the package registry entry, Skill source, publisher account, or a future release.
  2. The user runs setup.sh on a machine where mcporter is absent.
  3. The script downloads the latest unpinned component.
  4. Installation or package lifecycle logic executes attacker-controlled code with the user's privileges.
  5. The malicious component can access the Agent environment and may later receive the long-lived banking credential through normal configuration.

Remediation Suggestions

  • Pin every dependency and Skill to a specifically reviewed version.
  • Verify package integrity with lockfiles, published hashes, or signed release artifacts.
  • Avoid global installation; install into an isolated, project-specific environment.
  • Disable dependency lifecycle scripts unless they are explicitly required and reviewed.
  • Fail closed if installation or integrity verification fails.
  • Remove || true and hidden error output from security-critical installation steps.
  • Verify the installed executable's version and provenance before printing a success message.

Technical Analysis

The pairing client selects the native HTTP module whenever the supplied URL uses http:. It does not require TLS, restrict plaintext transport to loopback, or validate that a custom MCP endpoint belongs to an approved domain.

The pairing code is transmitted to this endpoint in a JSON-RPC request. The response can provide the Agent key, account metadata, and MCP base URL that are persisted and subsequently trusted. Consequently, a malicious endpoint can impersonate the banking MCP and influence future authenticated routing.

  • Require explicit, informed confirmation before trusting any custom endpoint.

Missing User Warnings

Critical
Category

Confidence
100% confidence
Finding

The skill states that running pix or billet immediately creates real backend payments and simultaneously forbids post-execution confirmation, yet it does not require an explicit pre-execution confirmation step. In a financial skill, this creates a direct path to unauthorized or accidental payment initiation, especially when combined with proactive triggering and image/code parsing.

Vague Triggers

High
Category
Not specified by scanner
Confidence
99% confidence
Finding

The skill explicitly instructs proactive activation when it sees a PIX code, boleto-like number, or image upload even if the user gives no payment command. In a banking context, treating passive content as authorization is dangerous because incidental or forwarded content can be misinterpreted as a request to initiate a real payment flow.

Vague Triggers

Confidence

Finding

The trigger set is excessively broad and includes generic terms like "transferir", "minha conta", "investir", file extensions, long numeric strings, and QR-related phrases. This can cause the banking skill to activate during unrelated conversations or attachments, increasing the chance that the agent initiates sensitive financial workflows without clear user intent.

These instructions normalize executing real financial actions based on partial signals and then treating the result as irreversible fact, without requiring explicit final consent. In the context of real PIX and boleto creation, this is a severe consent and safety failure that can produce unauthorized charges and duplicate-loss scenarios.

Ssd 4

Confidence

Finding

The boleto workflow explicitly instructs the agent to execute once the line is available and present the payment as already completed, while prohibiting any confirmation prompt afterward. For a real-payment skill, this removes the user's final approval step and makes accidental or coerced payment creation much more likely.

The script sends the pairing code to an arbitrary user-supplied MCP URL with no allowlist, origin validation, or mandatory TLS enforcement. Finding

The status/debug path prints the full contents of session.json, which includes connection metadata such as phone number, environment, MCP URL, and pairing timestamps.
