Obsidian Daily Note

Security checks for vulnerabilities and agentic risk

Overview

This is a straightforward Obsidian daily-note helper that writes session summaries to a user-selected vault, with local persistence risks that are visible and purpose-aligned.

Install only if you want the agent to create or update Obsidian daily-note files from the current session. Before writing, confirm the vault path and review the proposed note content, especially if the conversation includes secrets, personal data, customer information, or work that syncs to a cloud-backed vault.

Vulnerability Patterns
  • Skill Instruction HijackingAlters the agent's session goals or safety constraints when the skill loads
  • Agent Memory PoisoningWrites attacker-controlled rules into memory that affect later sessions
  • Remote Payload Retrieval and ExecutionFetches external code whose behavior can change after review
  • Embedded Malicious CodeShips malicious scripts inside the skill and executes them locally
  • Unauthorized Access and Privilege EscalationObtains permissions beyond the task's legitimate needs
Vulnerability Patterns
  • Prompt InjectionInstruction Override, Hidden Instructions, Exfiltration Commands
  • Data ExfiltrationExternal Transmission, Env Variable Harvesting, File System Enumeration
  • Trigger AbuseOverly Broad Trigger, Shadow Command Trigger, Keyword Baiting Trigger
  • Privilege EscalationExcessive Permissions, Sudo/Root Execution, Credential Access
  • Supply ChainUnpinned Dependencies, External Script Fetching, Obfuscated Code

Hidden Instructions

High
Category
Prompt Injection
Confidence
60% confidence
Finding

Hidden instructions were detected in comments or invisible text. These could contain malicious directives. Manual review is recommended.

Context Leakage

High
Category
Data Exfiltration
Confidence
93% confidence
Finding

The phrase 'log session activities' encourages transferring conversational context into a persistent file, which creates a direct context-leakage path from the chat session into storage. This is especially risky because users may discuss credentials, internal project details, or other sensitive material during a session that should not be automatically memorialized.

Vague Triggers

Medium
Category
Not specified by scanner
Confidence
91% confidence
Finding

The trigger phrases are broad enough to activate on ordinary requests like writing a summary or logging today's work, which can cause the skill to run in situations the user did not specifically intend. Because this skill performs file-writing behavior, overbroad activation increases the risk of unexpected persistence of user content into an Obsidian vault.

Missing User Warnings

Medium
Category
Not specified by scanner
Confidence
88% confidence
Finding

The workflow instructs the agent to write a note into the user's vault, but the skill description does not clearly warn that it will create or modify files. Users may think they are only asking for a summary, while the skill persists data locally or into a synced vault, which can propagate unintended content across devices or services.

Confidence
95% confidence
Finding

The instruction to collect today's activities from session context and place them into a persistent daily note can capture sensitive information the user mentioned during the session but did not intend to store long-term. In an Obsidian vault, especially one synced via OneDrive, iCloud, or Obsidian Sync, this can turn transient chat context into durable, replicated data exposure.
