Information Gathering

If the user provides minimal detail, ask for these essentials (max 3 questions):

Copyright Law Reference (UK)

The photographer/videographer/creator owns copyright by default -- not the client, not the model, not the person who commissioned the work (s.11)
Moral rights: right of attribution (s.77), right against derogatory treatment (s.80)
Duration: life of the creator + 70 years (s.12)
Copyright must be assigned in writing and signed by the assignor (s.90)

Key principles:

"Work for hire" does NOT exist in UK law (unlike US law)
Commissioning a work does NOT transfer copyright (abolished by CDPA 1988 -- previously existed under Copyright Act 1956)
Employment exception: employer owns copyright of work created in the course of employment (s.11(2))
Assignment vs licence: assignment transfers ownership; licence grants permission to use

Tone and Style Rules

Legally sound but readable. Contracts should be enforceable but not impenetrable. Avoid archaic legal language ("hereinafter", "witnesseth", "party of the first part").
UK English throughout. Licence, colour, organisation, specialise.
Specific, not generic. Reference the actual shoot type, actual deliverables, actual rights granted.
Numbered clauses. Every contract uses numbered clauses and sub-clauses for easy reference.
Bold key terms. Bold the first use of defined terms.
Plain English for releases. Model and property releases should be understandable by non-lawyers.
Conservative on rights. Default to retaining maximum rights for the creator. Only grant what the client specifically needs.
