WireGuard

Security checks for vulnerabilities and agentic risk

Overview

This is a short WireGuard guidance skill that warns about common VPN configuration and key-management mistakes without adding executable behavior.

Install only if you want the agent to help reason about WireGuard configuration. Because WireGuard changes can affect all network traffic, review generated configs before applying them and keep private keys and wg0.conf secret with restrictive permissions.

Vulnerability Patterns
  • Skill Instruction HijackingAlters the agent's session goals or safety constraints when the skill loads
  • Agent Memory PoisoningWrites attacker-controlled rules into memory that affect later sessions
  • Remote Payload Retrieval and ExecutionFetches external code whose behavior can change after review
  • Embedded Malicious CodeShips malicious scripts inside the skill and executes them locally
  • Unauthorized Access and Privilege EscalationObtains permissions beyond the task's legitimate needs
Vulnerability Patterns
  • Tool MisuseTool Parameter Abuse, Chaining Abuse, Unsafe Defaults
  • Prompt InjectionInstruction Override, Hidden Instructions, Exfiltration Commands
  • Data ExfiltrationExternal Transmission, Env Variable Harvesting, File System Enumeration
  • Privilege EscalationExcessive Permissions, Sudo/Root Execution, Credential Access
  • Supply ChainUnpinned Dependencies, External Script Fetching, Obfuscated Code

Finding

Tool defaults are unsafe or overly permissive (e.g. disabled TLS verification, no authentication, world-writable permissions). Unsafe defaults widen the attack surface.

md
- Firewall must allow UDP on ListenPort — WireGuard is UDP only, no TCP fallback exists

## Key Security
- Private key file permissions matter — world-readable key is compromised, set 600 immediately after generation
- Never transmit private keys — generate on each machine, exchange only public keys
- Config files contain private keys — treat wg0.conf as secret, not just privatekey file
