Smart Home

Security checks for vulnerabilities and agentic risk

Overview

This smart-home guide is mostly coherent, but it includes under-scoped safety advice that could weaken a home alarm setup or erase security footage without adequate warnings.

Review the security automation examples carefully before using them. Do not allow geofencing, phone presence, or motion timeout alone to disarm alarms; require explicit confirmation or an authenticated local action. Before clearing camera or doorbell history, review and export anything that may be needed for disputes, incidents, warranty support, or law enforcement.

Vulnerability Patterns
  • Insecure Skill Coding PracticesFinds exploitable flaws such as hardcoded secrets or command injection
  • Skill Instruction HijackingAlters the agent's session goals or safety constraints when the skill loads
  • Agent Memory PoisoningWrites attacker-controlled rules into memory that affect later sessions
  • Remote Payload Retrieval and ExecutionFetches external code whose behavior can change after review
  • Embedded Malicious CodeShips malicious scripts inside the skill and executes them locally

Missing User Warnings

Finding

The checklist tells users to clear camera recordings and doorbell history as a routine post-reset step, but does not warn that this is destructive or that retained footage may be needed for incident review, disputes, warranty issues, or law-enforcement evidence. In a smart-home takeover context, users may be responding to a suspicious prior owner situation, which makes deletion more dangerous because it can erase signs of unauthorized access or harassment.

Finding

This markdown file uses only euro-based budget brackets (€100, €100-300, €300-800) as if they apply universally. That imposes a locale-specific framing without user opt-in or explanation, which can conflict with language/locale policy expectations for broadly applicable skills.
