Security audit

IELTS

Security checks for vulnerabilities and agentic risk

Overview

This IELTS study skill is a markdown-only assistant that stores study progress locally for its stated purpose, with privacy caveats users should understand.

Install only if you are comfortable with the agent keeping IELTS preparation records under ~/ielts/. Review or delete that folder if it may contain private goals, immigration plans, essays, transcripts, or recordings, especially on shared or backed-up machines.

Vulnerability Patterns
  • Skill Instruction HijackingAlters the agent's session goals or safety constraints when the skill loads
  • Agent Memory PoisoningWrites attacker-controlled rules into memory that affect later sessions
  • Remote Payload Retrieval and ExecutionFetches external code whose behavior can change after review
  • Embedded Malicious CodeShips malicious scripts inside the skill and executes them locally
  • Unauthorized Access and Privilege EscalationObtains permissions beyond the task's legitimate needs
Vulnerability Patterns
  • Prompt InjectionInstruction Override, Hidden Instructions, Exfiltration Commands
  • Data ExfiltrationExternal Transmission, Env Variable Harvesting, File System Enumeration
  • Privilege EscalationExcessive Permissions, Sudo/Root Execution, Credential Access
  • Supply ChainUnpinned Dependencies, External Script Fetching, Obfuscated Code
  • Excessive AgencyUnrestricted Tool Access, Autonomous Decision Making, Scope Creep

Missing User Warnings

Finding

The skill explicitly instructs that user data be stored persistently under ~/ielts/, including profile details, goals, exam dates, essays, and speaking recordings/transcripts, without any notice, consent flow, retention limits, or privacy safeguards. While not inherently malicious, this creates unnecessary exposure of potentially sensitive personal data on local disk where other local users, backups, or unrelated tools may access it.

Finding

The skill instructs the agent to persist user correction and performance-related learning data to ~/ielts/agent-learning.md without any indication of user notice, consent, retention limits, or access controls. In an educational context this may seem low-risk, but it still creates an undisclosed record of user behavior and feedback that could expose personal learning history or sensitive exam-preparation details if the host environment is shared or compromised.

Finding

This is a markdown file, so SQP-2 applies to omitted warnings about behaviors that could affect user data or system state. The guidance explicitly tells the user to track words in ~/ielts/vocabulary.md, which implies creating or modifying a local file, but the document gives no warning or disclosure about that data-handling behavior.
