Web Scraper Jina

Security checks for vulnerabilities and agentic risk

Overview

This skill is a simple r.jina.ai scraping guide, but it encourages broad protection bypassing and does not clearly warn that target URLs are sent to a third-party service.

Review before installing. Use it only for public pages you are authorized to scrape, and avoid URLs containing tokens, private query parameters, internal hostnames, authenticated content, or confidential targets because those URLs are sent through r.jina.ai.

Vulnerability Patterns
  • Skill Instruction HijackingAlters the agent's session goals or safety constraints when the skill loads
  • Agent Memory PoisoningWrites attacker-controlled rules into memory that affect later sessions
  • Remote Payload Retrieval and ExecutionFetches external code whose behavior can change after review
  • Embedded Malicious CodeShips malicious scripts inside the skill and executes them locally
  • Unauthorized Access and Privilege EscalationObtains permissions beyond the task's legitimate needs
Vulnerability Patterns
  • Data ExfiltrationExternal Transmission, Env Variable Harvesting, File System Enumeration
  • Prompt InjectionInstruction Override, Hidden Instructions, Exfiltration Commands
  • Privilege EscalationExcessive Permissions, Sudo/Root Execution, Credential Access
  • Supply ChainUnpinned Dependencies, External Script Fetching, Obfuscated Code
  • Excessive AgencyUnrestricted Tool Access, Autonomous Decision Making, Scope Creep

Finding

The skill instructs users to prepend arbitrary target URLs to r.jina.ai, which causes the full requested URL and any embedded query parameters to be sent to a third-party proxy service. Because the documentation and sample code omit any disclosure or warning about this data flow, users may unknowingly transmit sensitive URLs, tokens, internal endpoints, or proprietary targets to an external service, creating privacy, confidentiality, and compliance risks.
