Security audit

obspy-datacenter-client

Security checks for vulnerabilities and agentic risk

Overview

This is a documentation-only ObsPy skill for downloading public seismology data, with expected outbound requests to data-center services.

Before installing, understand that using the documented ObsPy clients will send your data-query parameters to external FDSN routing services and data centers. Avoid placing sensitive or private information in query fields, but the packaged skill itself is documentation-only and does not execute code.

Vulnerability Patterns
  • Skill Instruction HijackingAlters the agent's session goals or safety constraints when the skill loads
  • Agent Memory PoisoningWrites attacker-controlled rules into memory that affect later sessions
  • Remote Payload Retrieval and ExecutionFetches external code whose behavior can change after review
  • Embedded Malicious CodeShips malicious scripts inside the skill and executes them locally
  • Unauthorized Access and Privilege EscalationObtains permissions beyond the task's legitimate needs
Vulnerability Patterns
  • Data ExfiltrationExternal Transmission, Env Variable Harvesting, File System Enumeration
  • Prompt InjectionInstruction Override, Hidden Instructions, Exfiltration Commands
  • Privilege EscalationExcessive Permissions, Sudo/Root Execution, Credential Access
  • Supply ChainUnpinned Dependencies, External Script Fetching, Obfuscated Code
  • Excessive AgencyUnrestricted Tool Access, Autonomous Decision Making, Scope Creep

Finding

This markdown file explains that the client will automatically contact the IRIS federator and then individual data centers to retrieve data. Because the skill description documents network activity but provides no warning about outbound requests or potential data disclosure to external services, it meets the markdown-specific missing-warning criterion.
