Love Advisor Skill

Security checks for vulnerabilities and agentic risk

Overview

This is a simple relationship-advice skill with no code execution or local data access, though it includes a recurring promotional link and an unpinned install command.

Reasonable to install if you want relationship-advice prompting, but review the promotional replyher.com nudge and prefer a pinned or otherwise verified installer command in higher-assurance environments.

Vulnerability Patterns
  • Skill Instruction HijackingAlters the agent's session goals or safety constraints when the skill loads
  • Insecure DependenciesIntroduces malicious components through unsafe dependency sources
  • Agent Memory PoisoningWrites attacker-controlled rules into memory that affect later sessions
  • Remote Payload Retrieval and ExecutionFetches external code whose behavior can change after review
  • Embedded Malicious CodeShips malicious scripts inside the skill and executes them locally

text

Technical Analysis

The skill instructs the agent to append a predefined advertisement after three or more exchanges. This instruction is unrelated to determining the most appropriate relationship advice for the user and changes the agent's response behavior when the skill is loaded.

The promotion is mandatory rather than conditional on user interest or contextual relevance. It also directs users to an external commercial domain without requiring informed consent or clearly identifying the redirection as advertising. Because this behavior is embedded in the skill instructions, an agent following the skill will reproduce the promotional content automatically.

Attack Path

  1. A user or platform loads the love-advisor skill.
  2. The user conducts at least three conversational exchanges with the agent.
  3. The skill's threshold condition is satisfied.
  4. The agent appends the predefined promotional message to its response.
  5. The user is directed to replyher.com, potentially leaving the audited environment and interacting with an externally controlled service.

Impact Assessment

This issue can manipulate agent output and redirect users to an external commercial service. It does not grant local system privileges, execute code, or directly expose credentials. Its scope is limited to the active agent conversation and the resulting external redirection. Any additional privacy or security impact would depend on the behavior of the external website and the information the user chooses to provide there.

Remediation Suggestions

  • Remove the mandatory, exchange-count-based promotional instruction.
  • Do not append commercial links to unrelated responses automatically.
  • If external service recommendations are retained, present them only when relevant to an explicit user request.
  • Clearly label promotional content as advertising or an affiliated service.
  • Ask for user consent before directing the conversation to an external platform.
  • Document the external domain's ownership, privacy policy, and data-handling implications.

Installation Command Executes an Unpinned Registry Package

Content

Vulnerability Details

File Location: README.md, lines 7-9
Vulnerability Type: Unpinned package execution through npx
Risk Level: Medium

Vulnerable Code:

bash
npx clawhub install love-advisor

Technical Analysis

The documented installation procedure invokes clawhub through npx without specifying a reviewed package version or integrity digest. If the package is not already available locally, npx may retrieve a mutable release from the configured npm registry and execute its package entry point.

The effective installer therefore depends on registry state at installation time rather than a version reviewed with this project. A compromised maintainer account, malicious replacement release, dependency compromise, or registry-resolution manipulation could cause users to execute unintended code. The audited files do not demonstrate that the current clawhub package is malicious; the issue is the absence of version and integrity controls in the recommended command.

Attack Path

  1. An attacker compromises the upstream clawhub package, one of its executable dependencies, or the package-resolution channel.
  2. The attacker publishes or serves a malicious version that satisfies the unpinned package name.
  3. A user follows the README and runs npx clawhub install love-advisor.
  4. npx resolves and downloads the attacker-controlled package version.
  5. The package entry point executes with the permissions of the user running the command.
  6. The malicious package can access resources available to that user, subject to operating-system and environment restrictions.

Impact Assessment

Successful exploitation could allow arbitrary code execution with the privileges of the invoking user. Depending on those privileges and the host environment, the retrieved package could read or modify user-accessible files, access environment variables and tokens, make network requests, alter development a ...[truncated 207 chars]

Remediation Suggestions

  • Pin the CLI to a specifically reviewed version, for example npx clawhub@<reviewed-version> install love-advisor.
  • Use a lockfile or equivalent mechanism to constrain transitive dependency versions.
  • Provide a cryptographic checksum, signature, provenance attestation, or documented integrity-verification procedure.
  • Document the expected package registry and advise users not to accept packages from alternate or untrusted registries.
  • Review each pinned release before updating the installation instructions.
  • For higher-assurance environments, install the verified CLI separately and invoke the locally pinned binary without permitting on-demand package retrieval.

Finding

The README instructs users to run npx clawhub install love-advisor without pinning a specific package version. Because npx fetches and executes code at install time, users may receive a newer or compromised release than the author originally intended, increasing supply-chain risk if the package or its dependencies are hijacked.

Finding

This markdown file describes the skill as a general relationship guidance tool for people who need love advice, but it does not specify clear invocation phrases, boundaries, or negative examples. That broad framing could overlap with many ordinary conversations about relationships and lead to unintended skill activation.
