Obsidian Vault Link Map

Security checks for vulnerabilities and agentic risk

Overview

The skill analyzes a user-selected local vault and saves reports without modifying notes or sending their contents over the network.

Select only the vault directory you want analyzed and keep the host sandbox enabled. Reports retain note names and link relationships, so treat them as private. The bundled mapping code needs no Obsidian credentials or MochiLab account; direct ZIP installation is documented.

Vulnerability Patterns
  • Skill Instruction HijackingAlters the agent's session goals or safety constraints when the skill loads
  • Agent Memory PoisoningWrites attacker-controlled rules into memory that affect later sessions
  • Remote Payload Retrieval and ExecutionFetches external code whose behavior can change after review
  • Embedded Malicious CodeShips malicious scripts inside the skill and executes them locally
  • Unauthorized Access and Privilege EscalationObtains permissions beyond the task's legitimate needs
Vulnerability Patterns
  • Excessive AgencyUnrestricted Tool Access, Autonomous Decision Making, Scope Creep
  • MCP Least PrivilegeUnderdeclared Capability, Wildcard Permission, Missing Permission Declaration
  • MCP Tool PoisoningHidden Instructions, Unicode Deception, Parameter Description Injection
  • Prompt InjectionInstruction Override, Hidden Instructions, Exfiltration Commands
  • Data ExfiltrationExternal Transmission, Env Variable Harvesting, File System Enumeration

Description-Behavior Mismatch

High
Category
MCP Tool Poisoning
Confidence
88% confidence
Finding

Taking the static report's capability assessment as accurate, an HTTP helper supporting remote mutations and optional private-network access exceeds the needs of local vault-link analysis. If reachable through task inputs or the action dispatcher, it could enable disclosure of private notes or unauthorized remote requests; however, the supplied SKILL.md does not establish that reachability or show actual transmission. The workspace and source-content safeguards reduce intended exposure but do not technically constrain the reported helper.

Content

No source excerpt is available for this finding.

Skill declares no tool scope ('permissions' or 'allowed-tools') but code capabilities were detected: file_read, file_write, network, shell.

Medium
Category
MCP Least Privilege
Confidence
70% confidence
Finding

Without declared permissions the skill's intent is opaque and cannot be validated.

The runtime implements an outbound HTTP client unrelated to local Obsidian link mapping.

Medium
Category
Excessive Agency
Confidence
97% confidence
Finding

The manifest describes analyzing Markdown links within a vault, which does not require network access. The safe_request helper implements DNS resolution and outbound HTTP requests, including POST, PUT, PATCH, and DELETE, with optional access to private hosts. No invocation is shown in this file, so this finding concerns an unjustified implemented capability, not evidence of actual transmission.

Scope Creep

Low
Category
Excessive Agency
Confidence
70% confidence
Finding

Skill's behavior or capabilities extend beyond its stated purpose. Scope creep allows an agent to perform actions unrelated to its documented functionality, increasing the attack surface.
