Security audit

Document Templates and Batch Output

Security checks for vulnerabilities and agentic risk

Overview

This skill performs local, user-directed document generation with proportionate safeguards and routine installation precautions.

Use the documented virtual environment, trusted templates, and a reviewed installer version. Local document generation requires no account credentials. Keep generated documents private and visually review a sample before producing a large batch.

Vulnerability Patterns
  • Skill Instruction HijackingAlters the agent's session goals or safety constraints when the skill loads
  • Agent Memory PoisoningWrites attacker-controlled rules into memory that affect later sessions
  • Remote Payload Retrieval and ExecutionFetches external code whose behavior can change after review
  • Embedded Malicious CodeShips malicious scripts inside the skill and executes them locally
  • Unauthorized Access and Privilege EscalationObtains permissions beyond the task's legitimate needs
Vulnerability Patterns
  • Data ExfiltrationExternal Transmission, Env Variable Harvesting, File System Enumeration
  • Supply ChainUnpinned Dependencies, External Script Fetching, Obfuscated Code
  • Excessive AgencyUnrestricted Tool Access, Autonomous Decision Making, Scope Creep
  • Output HandlingUnvalidated Output Injection, Cross-Context Output, Unbounded Output
  • MCP Least PrivilegeUnderdeclared Capability, Wildcard Permission, Missing Permission Declaration
Findings (7)

MCP server referenced without pinned version: 'npx clawhub'.

Medium
Category
MCP Rug Pull
Confidence
95% confidence
Finding

The installation example executes npx clawhub@latest, allowing a mutable npm release to run code with the invoking user's permissions. A compromised package or malicious future release could access workspace documents and credentials, although the README provides no evidence of an actual compromise. The tool is an installation CLI rather than an MCP server, so the finding's label is inaccurate, but its unpinned-execution concern is valid.

MCP server referenced without pinned version: 'npx clawhub'.

Medium
Category
MCP Rug Pull
Confidence
96% confidence
Finding

The documented command uses npx clawhub@latest, which executes a dynamically selected CLI release rather than a pinned, reviewed version; it is not an MCP server reference as the static finding suggests. A compromised or malicious future release could execute with the invoking user's permissions and access local documents or credentials. This is a conventional installation instruction with no evidence of malicious intent, but its use in an assistant workspace makes the supply-chain exposure relevant.

Skill declares no tool scope ('permissions' or 'allowed-tools') but code capabilities were detected: env, file_read, file_write, shell.

Medium
Category
MCP Least Privilege
Confidence
70% confidence
Finding

Without declared permissions the skill's intent is opaque and cannot be validated.

The atomic-write helper silently replaces existing destination files without disclosing the overwrite behavior.

Medium
Category
Output Handling
Confidence
88% confidence
Finding

The helper writes a temporary file and then uses os.replace(tmp,p), which overwrites an existing destination file. No docstring, comment, confirmation, or operation-specific log explains that existing file contents will be replaced.

The shared core provides credential-environment access unrelated to document template generation (L39–L42).

Medium
Category
Excessive Agency
Confidence
96% confidence
Finding

The secret() helper reads a configuration-selected environment variable, defaulting to a passwordEnv setting, and returns its value. Credential retrieval is not justified by the manifest's local template generation, field validation, or formatting capabilities. This file defines the capability but does not demonstrate that it is invoked or that credentials are transmitted.

Scope Creep

Low
Category
Excessive Agency
Confidence
70% confidence
Finding

Skill's behavior or capabilities extend beyond its stated purpose. Scope creep allows an agent to perform actions unrelated to its documented functionality, increasing the attack surface.

Unverifiable Dependency: python-docx has 2 known advisory(ies) (CVE-2016-5851 (Improper Restriction of XML External Entity Reference in python-docx); CVE-2016-5851 (python-docx before 0.8.6 allows context-dependent attackers to conduct XML Exter)), but the manifest does not pin a version, so it is unknown whether the installed release is affected

Low

Confidence

Finding

OSV returned advisories for this package, but its resolved version is unknown. A package-name lookup does not establish whether the installed release is affected by those advisories.
