Drop Spindle Spinning Basics

Security checks for vulnerabilities and agentic risk

Overview

This skill is a coherent fiber-spinning guide with a disclosed installer caveat, not evidence of malicious behavior.

Before installing, treat the `npx` command as executable remote code: use a trusted registry, avoid running it with elevated privileges, and prefer a pinned or platform-verified installer when available. Expect the skill to use filesystem storage for spinning logs, recipes, photos, reminders, and inventory-style templates.

Vulnerability Patterns
  • Insecure DependenciesIntroduces malicious components through unsafe dependency sources
  • Skill Instruction HijackingAlters the agent's session goals or safety constraints when the skill loads
  • Agent Memory PoisoningWrites attacker-controlled rules into memory that affect later sessions
  • Remote Payload Retrieval and ExecutionFetches external code whose behavior can change after review
  • Embedded Malicious CodeShips malicious scripts inside the skill and executes them locally

install drop-spindle-spinning-basics ``` Do not use version ranges or floating tags such as `latest`. 2. Configure and document an explicitly trusted npm registry rather than relying on ambient registry configuration. 3. Verify package provenance and integrity before execution. Record the expected package digest and compare it against the downloaded artifact. 4. Review the pinned package, its CLI entry point, lifecycle scripts, and transitive dependency lockfile before recommending execution. 5. Prefer a platform-managed installer that retrieves a verified artifact separately from execution and rejects artifacts whose signatures or hashes do not match approved values. 6. Run installation with the minimum required privileges in an isolated environment. Do not invoke the command as an administrator or root user. 7. Keep the version and integrity metadata in the reviewed skill manifest so future dependency updates require an explicit security review. ]]>

Finding

The skill instructs users to run npx clawhub install drop-spindle-spinning-basics without pinning a specific version of the package or tool. Because npx fetches and executes remote code at install time, a compromised, typo-squatted, or newly changed upstream package could execute arbitrary code on the user's system.

Finding

This repeated install command again references npx clawhub without a pinned version, creating the same remote code execution supply-chain risk. Repetition increases exposure because users may copy and run the command directly from the body of the skill text, trusting it as authoritative setup guidance.
