Web Research Assistant

Security checks for vulnerabilities and agentic risk

Overview

This is a simple web research instruction skill whose network use is expected for its purpose, with no bundled code, install scripts, credential handling, or hidden persistence.

Install only if you want your agent to perform live web research. Be careful with `/research summarize <url>`: only provide URLs you are comfortable having the agent request, and avoid localhost, private network, cloud metadata, or confidential internal links.

Vulnerability Patterns
  • Skill Instruction HijackingAlters the agent's session goals or safety constraints when the skill loads
  • Agent Memory PoisoningWrites attacker-controlled rules into memory that affect later sessions
  • Remote Payload Retrieval and ExecutionFetches external code whose behavior can change after review
  • Embedded Malicious CodeShips malicious scripts inside the skill and executes them locally
  • Unauthorized Access and Privilege EscalationObtains permissions beyond the task's legitimate needs
Vulnerability Patterns
  • Data ExfiltrationExternal Transmission, Env Variable Harvesting, File System Enumeration
  • Prompt InjectionInstruction Override, Hidden Instructions, Exfiltration Commands
  • Privilege EscalationExcessive Permissions, Sudo/Root Execution, Credential Access
  • Supply ChainUnpinned Dependencies, External Script Fetching, Obfuscated Code
  • Excessive AgencyUnrestricted Tool Access, Autonomous Decision Making, Scope Creep

Finding

The skill accepts arbitrary user-supplied URLs for fetching and summarization but does not disclose that this triggers external network access or that the provided URL will be requested by the agent/runtime. This can expose sensitive internal or private URLs supplied by users, create SSRF-like risk depending on the execution environment, and lead to unintended contact with third-party or internal services.
