Security audit

Netatmo

Security checks for vulnerabilities and agentic risk

Overview

This skill is a straightforward Netatmo helper, but users should understand that some commands can change live thermostat settings.

Install this only if you already intend to let the local netatmo CLI access your Netatmo account and thermostat. Keep ~/.config/netatmo protected, and confirm before using set or mode commands because they can immediately change heating behavior.

Vulnerability Patterns
  • Skill Instruction HijackingAlters the agent's session goals or safety constraints when the skill loads
  • Agent Memory PoisoningWrites attacker-controlled rules into memory that affect later sessions
  • Remote Payload Retrieval and ExecutionFetches external code whose behavior can change after review
  • Embedded Malicious CodeShips malicious scripts inside the skill and executes them locally
  • Unauthorized Access and Privilege EscalationObtains permissions beyond the task's legitimate needs
Vulnerability Patterns
  • Privilege EscalationExcessive Permissions, Sudo/Root Execution, Credential Access
  • Prompt InjectionInstruction Override, Hidden Instructions, Exfiltration Commands
  • Data ExfiltrationExternal Transmission, Env Variable Harvesting, File System Enumeration
  • Supply ChainUnpinned Dependencies, External Script Fetching, Obfuscated Code
  • Excessive AgencyUnrestricted Tool Access, Autonomous Decision Making, Scope Creep

Credential Access

Category
Privilege Escalation
Confidence
70% confidence
Finding

Code accesses credential files (SSH keys, AWS credentials, etc.). This could indicate credential theft attempts.

## Setup

Credentials in `~/.config/netatmo/`:
- `credentials.json`: `{"client_id": "...", "client_secret": "..."}`
- `tokens.json`: OAuth tokens (auto-refreshed)

Missing User Warnings

Low
Category
Not specified by scanner
Confidence
85% confidence
Finding

The markdown states the skill can control heating and later lists commands like setting temperature and changing mode, but it does not include any caution that these actions will alter the user's home thermostat state. For markdown files, destructive or system-affecting behavior should be accompanied by a user-facing warning when it could impact user environment or comfort.
