Freqtrade Backtester

Security checks for vulnerabilities and agentic risk

Overview

The skill is mostly a coherent Freqtrade backtesting guide, but it asks users to handle exchange API secrets in a financial context without enough scoping or safety guidance.

Before installing, make sure you only use this skill for explicit Freqtrade backtesting tasks. Do not paste exchange secrets into chats or committed files, and prefer read-only or trading-disabled API keys unless you have a specific need for authenticated exchange access.

Vulnerability Patterns
  • Skill Instruction HijackingAlters the agent's session goals or safety constraints when the skill loads
  • Agent Memory PoisoningWrites attacker-controlled rules into memory that affect later sessions
  • Remote Payload Retrieval and ExecutionFetches external code whose behavior can change after review
  • Embedded Malicious CodeShips malicious scripts inside the skill and executes them locally
  • Unauthorized Access and Privilege EscalationObtains permissions beyond the task's legitimate needs
Vulnerability Patterns
  • Data ExfiltrationExternal Transmission, Env Variable Harvesting, File System Enumeration
  • Trigger AbuseOverly Broad Trigger, Shadow Command Trigger, Keyword Baiting Trigger
  • Prompt InjectionInstruction Override, Hidden Instructions, Exfiltration Commands
  • Privilege EscalationExcessive Permissions, Sudo/Root Execution, Credential Access
  • Supply ChainUnpinned Dependencies, External Script Fetching, Obfuscated Code

Vague Triggers

Medium
Category
Not specified by scanner
Confidence
95% confidence
Finding

The trigger list includes broad natural-language phrases such as 'run backtest', 'compare strategies', and especially 'is my strategy good', which can cause the skill to activate in contexts where the user did not explicitly request this tool. Over-broad activation increases the chance of unintended tool use around financial decision-making, which is higher risk because outputs may influence trading behavior and subsequent handling of market data or credentials.

Missing User Warnings

Medium
Category
Not specified by scanner
Confidence
87% confidence
Finding

The skill instructs users to export exchange API key and secret environment variables but does not warn about using least-privilege credentials, avoiding live-trading keys when backtesting, or preventing accidental disclosure in shell history, logs, screenshots, or shared environments. In a trading context, mishandled exchange credentials can enable account access or trading abuse if the keys are exposed.
