sec-filings-research

Security checks for vulnerabilities and agentic risk

Overview

The skill is a disclosed SEC-filings research helper that sends user-directed SEC queries to Crawlora, with no hidden persistence or destructive behavior found.

Before installing, understand that SEC queries, scrape requests, and your Crawlora API key are sent to Crawlora. Keep the API key in the environment, use /web/scrape only for relevant public source documents, and avoid sending private or unrelated content through this helper.

Vulnerability Patterns
  • Skill Instruction HijackingAlters the agent's session goals or safety constraints when the skill loads
  • Agent Memory PoisoningWrites attacker-controlled rules into memory that affect later sessions
  • Remote Payload Retrieval and ExecutionFetches external code whose behavior can change after review
  • Embedded Malicious CodeShips malicious scripts inside the skill and executes them locally
  • Unauthorized Access and Privilege EscalationObtains permissions beyond the task's legitimate needs
Vulnerability Patterns
  • Data ExfiltrationExternal Transmission, Env Variable Harvesting, File System Enumeration
  • Privilege EscalationExcessive Permissions, Sudo/Root Execution, Credential Access
  • Excessive AgencyUnrestricted Tool Access, Autonomous Decision Making, Scope Creep
  • MCP Least PrivilegeUnderdeclared Capability, Wildcard Permission, Missing Permission Declaration
  • Prompt InjectionInstruction Override, Hidden Instructions, Exfiltration Commands

Medium
Category
MCP Least Privilege
Confidence
89% confidence
Finding
The skill instructs users to run a bundled shell script but does not declare any explicit tool scope or restrictions. That creates an avoidable trust gap: an agent or operator may permit shell execution without a clear least-privilege boundary, increasing the chance of unintended command execution or abuse if the script or surrounding files are modified.

Context-Inappropriate Capability

Medium
Confidence
95% confidence
Finding
The skill is scoped to SEC filings research, but it exposes a general-purpose `web_scrape` endpoint that can fetch arbitrary public URLs. That broadens the tool's capability beyond its stated purpose and creates an unnecessary data-exfiltration and scope-expansion path if prompts or downstream logic are manipulated to scrape unrelated targets.

Finding
Data is being sent to an external URL. This could be legitimate telemetry or data exfiltration. Manual review is recommended.
