Security checks for vulnerabilities and agentic risk

Overview

This Gmail skill pack is mostly transparent about its purpose, but it handles sensitive email data with broad permissions, external AI processing, background automation, and local logging that need careful review before installation.

Review this before installing if your Gmail contains sensitive personal, work, legal, financial, or authentication messages. Prefer Gmail-only authorization unless you explicitly need Sheets or Docs export, avoid the npm install path unless verified, and do not use analyzer/responder workflows unless you are comfortable sending selected email content to Anthropic. Require explicit confirmation for sending, deleting, bulk moves, scheduled jobs, exports, and any persistent logs.

Email records can contain personal data, credentials, authentication links, financial information, legal communications, confidential business data, and quoted conversation history. External AI processing is related to the declared analysis function, so the transmission is not covert. However, the Skill does not require informed consent before transmitting mailbox data, does not define data-minimization controls, and explicitly defaults `privacy_mode` to `false`. Unpinned and Inconsistent Global npm Installation Guidance Creates Supply-Chain Risk

Content
View full analysis
` ``` ### Technical Analysis The Skill recommends globally installing the unpinned package `gogcli` from npm. A global npm installation can execute package lifecycle scripts with the user's privileges. The instruction provides no exact version, integrity digest, verified publisher, or provenance validation. This installation route is also inconsistent with the rest of the project, which identifies the Homebrew formula as `steipete/tap/gogcli`. The inconsistency increases the risk of package-name confusion, typosquatting, dependency substitution, or installing an unrelated package that happens to use the expected name. Because no package lockfile, checksum, signature, or trusted release reference is supplied, the effective package contents can change after the Skill has been reviewed. ### Attack Path 1. The `gog` executable is missing from the user's system. 2. The Skill displays or executes the suggested `npm i -g gogcli` command. 3. npm resolves the current package release rather than a reviewed version. 4. A compromised, transferred, confusingly named, or malicious package executes lifecycle scripts during global installation. 5. The package gains the installing user's local privileges and can access files, environment variables, OAuth material, and OpenClaw configuration. ### Impact Assessment Successful exploitation could grant arbitrary code execution with the privileges of the user running npm. Depending on that user's access, an attacker could obtain: - OpenClaw configuration and workspace files. - Environment variables, including API keys. - Gmail OAuth tokens manag ...[truncated 381 chars]

Description-Behavior Mismatch

High
Category
Not specified by scanner
Confidence
98% confidence
Finding

The file's declared behavior is not simple Gmail reading; it performs classification, phishing detection, task extraction, prompt detection, and thread summarization using AI. This capability expansion matters because users invoking an email-reader-style skill may not expect deeper processing or downstream sharing of content, increasing the chance of overcollection and misuse beyond the apparent trust boundary.

Context-Inappropriate Capability

High
Category
Not specified by scanner
Confidence
98% confidence
Finding

The skill explicitly requires an Anthropic API key and describes sending Gmail email contents to Claude for batch analysis. Email bodies commonly contain sensitive personal, financial, legal, or corporate data, so forwarding them to an external AI service creates a real data exfiltration and privacy risk, especially when the parent skill context is email reading rather than third-party processing.

Missing User Warnings

High
Category
Not specified by scanner
Confidence
99% confidence
Finding

The batch prompt instructs sending full email content to Claude but provides no prominent warning, consent flow, or privacy notice to the user. Because emails often contain highly sensitive data and third-party AI services may retain or process inputs differently than Gmail, undisclosed transmission creates a significant confidentiality and compliance risk.

Missing User Warnings

Medium
Category
Not specified by scanner
Confidence
89% confidence
Finding

The README advertises high-impact capabilities such as moving, archiving, labeling, cleaning in batch, sending replies, scheduling automation, and exporting data without prominent warnings about account-wide effects or sensitive data exposure. Users may enable or invoke these skills without understanding that they can modify mailbox state, send messages, or export email-derived information.

Vague Triggers

Medium
Category
Not specified by scanner
Confidence
94% confidence
Finding

The example trigger phrases are broad natural-language commands like checking mail, cleaning spam, and responding to messages, which can easily overlap with ordinary conversation and activate powerful email capabilities unintentionally. In a skill that can read and manipulate Gmail across folders, accidental invocation increases the risk of unintended data access or account-changing actions.

Content

No source excerpt is available for this finding.

Missing User Warnings

Medium
Category
Not specified by scanner
Confidence
95% confidence
Finding

The skill is explicitly designed to read Gmail across all folders and labels, which can expose highly sensitive personal or business data if invoked without clear user awareness and scope limitation. In an agent setting, missing privacy warnings and lack of explicit consent language increases the risk of over-collection, especially when spam, trash, drafts, and custom labels are included.

Content

No source excerpt is available for this finding.

Natural-Language Policy Violations

Medium
Category
Not specified by scanner
Confidence
88% confidence
Finding

Environment variable descriptions, usage instructions, prompts, and output examples are presented in Spanish throughout the file. This forces a specific language/locale without offering the user an opt-in choice or documenting that the skill is intended only for a Spanish-speaking context.

Content

No source excerpt is available for this finding.

Intent-Code Divergence

Medium
Category
Not specified by scanner
Confidence
88% confidence
Finding

The documented workflow encourages chaining into actions such as moving spam to trash and generating drafts after analysis. In a read-oriented context, this increases risk by turning a passive data-access skill into one that can modify mailbox state or prepare outbound content based on potentially incorrect AI judgments, including false phishing or spam classifications.

Content

No source excerpt is available for this finding.

Vague Triggers

Medium
Category
Not specified by scanner
Confidence
95% confidence
Finding

The activation description is broad enough to trigger the skill for many generic email-management requests, increasing the chance that it is invoked in situations where the user did not intend bulk organizational actions. In a skill capable of trashing, deleting, archiving, and relabeling mail, overbroad routing raises the risk of unintended high-impact operations.

Content

No source excerpt is available for this finding.

Natural-Language Policy Violations

Medium
Category
Not specified by scanner
Confidence
98% confidence
Finding

The environment variable description is written in Spanish, and the operational instructions and user-facing confirmation examples throughout the file are also exclusively in Spanish. This imposes a language choice on users without offering a language option or explaining a region-specific requirement.

Content

No source excerpt is available for this finding.

Intent-Code Divergence

Medium
Category
Not specified by scanner
Confidence
98% confidence
Finding

The skill tells the user it is about to delete messages permanently, but the command shown only moves them to trash. This mismatch is dangerous because it can mislead users about the actual effect of a destructive action, undermining informed consent and potentially causing incorrect follow-up behavior or repeated deletion attempts.

Content

No source excerpt is available for this finding.

Description-Behavior Mismatch

Medium
Category
Not specified by scanner
Confidence
90% confidence
Finding

The manifest description scopes the skill to Gmail-organizing actions performed via the gog CLI, such as moving, archiving, deleting, and labeling messages. The documentation additionally instructs the agent to write persistent records to ~/.openclaw/workspace/email_audit.log and implies later recovery workflows, which is extra local file-state behavior not reflected in the manifest's stated purpose.

Content

No source excerpt is available for this finding.

Vague Triggers

Medium
Category
Not specified by scanner
Confidence
90% confidence
Finding

The activation text is broad enough to match many ordinary email tasks, which can cause this higher-privilege reporting/export skill to be selected in situations where a narrower read-only skill would be safer. Over-broad routing increases exposure to unnecessary Gmail, Sheets, Docs, and local file operations.

Content

No source excerpt is available for this finding.

Missing User Warnings

Medium
Category
Not specified by scanner
Confidence
94% confidence
Finding

The skill exports email-derived metadata such as sender, subject, category, and actions into Google Sheets without a user-facing warning about external storage and persistence. Even if only metadata is exported, this can disclose sensitive communication patterns or content summaries beyond Gmail into another service and shared artifact.

Content

No source excerpt is available for this finding.

Context-Inappropriate Capability

Medium
Category
Not specified by scanner
Confidence
95% confidence
Finding

The skill is scoped as an email reporting/statistics tool, but it also includes a recovery workflow for trashed emails. That expands capability from passive reporting into state-changing mailbox operations, increasing the chance that a benign reporting request triggers or normalizes unrelated mailbox modification behavior.

Content

No source excerpt is available for this finding.

Context-Inappropriate Capability

Medium
Category
Not specified by scanner
Confidence
91% confidence
Finding

The Google Docs integration allows reading and exporting arbitrary document content, which is outside the stated email-reporting purpose. This broadens data access unnecessarily and could expose unrelated sensitive documents if the skill is invoked too broadly or misused.

Content

No source excerpt is available for this finding.

Missing User Warnings

Medium
Category
Not specified by scanner
Confidence
96% confidence
Finding

The skill instructs saving extracted prompt text from emails into a local workspace log without warning the user about retention. This creates a secondary copy of potentially sensitive email content in local files, increasing the risk of later disclosure through other tools, logs, backups, or workspace access.

Content

No source excerpt is available for this finding.

Ssd 3

Medium
Category
Not specified by scanner
Confidence
97% confidence
Finding

The skill explicitly stores extracted prompt content from emails in a workspace file, which can leak private email contents into a broader local environment. Because workspace files are often accessible to other tools, agents, or backup systems, this creates avoidable secondary data exposure beyond the mailbox itself.
