Twilio

Security checks for vulnerabilities and agentic risk

Overview

This is a documentation-only Twilio API guide with expected external API use, but users should be careful because Twilio actions can send messages, emails, verifications, and phone calls that may cost money.

Before installing or using this skill, make sure the agent asks for clear confirmation before sending messages, emails, OTPs, WhatsApp messages, or placing/ending calls. Use limited Twilio API keys, protect Auth Tokens, validate webhooks, avoid logging credentials or unnecessary PII, and remember that Twilio and SendGrid API actions can contact real people and incur charges.

Vulnerability Patterns
  • Skill Instruction HijackingAlters the agent's session goals or safety constraints when the skill loads
  • Agent Memory PoisoningWrites attacker-controlled rules into memory that affect later sessions
  • Remote Payload Retrieval and ExecutionFetches external code whose behavior can change after review
  • Embedded Malicious CodeShips malicious scripts inside the skill and executes them locally
  • Unauthorized Access and Privilege EscalationObtains permissions beyond the task's legitimate needs
Vulnerability Patterns
  • Data ExfiltrationExternal Transmission, Env Variable Harvesting, File System Enumeration
  • Prompt InjectionInstruction Override, Hidden Instructions, Exfiltration Commands
  • Privilege EscalationExcessive Permissions, Sudo/Root Execution, Credential Access
  • Supply ChainUnpinned Dependencies, External Script Fetching, Obfuscated Code
  • Excessive AgencyUnrestricted Tool Access, Autonomous Decision Making, Scope Creep

Finding

This reference describes creating and controlling phone calls without warning that using the API can place or terminate real-world calls and may incur telecom charges. In an agent skill context, that omission can lead users or downstream agents to trigger actions with financial cost and communication disruption without adequate awareness or confirmation.
