Cmc X402

Security checks for vulnerabilities and agentic risk

Overview

This is a disclosed CoinMarketCap x402 payment guide, but it should be reviewed because it teaches automatic wallet-backed payments with broad triggers and no enforced spending policy.

Use this only with a dedicated low-balance Base wallet, pin and verify npm package versions, and add explicit checks for chain, USDC contract, recipient, price, retries, and cumulative spend before allowing automatic payments.

Vulnerability Patterns
  • Insecure DependenciesIntroduces malicious components through unsafe dependency sources
  • Insecure Skill Coding PracticesFinds exploitable flaws such as hardcoded secrets or command injection
  • Skill Instruction HijackingAlters the agent's session goals or safety constraints when the skill loads
  • Agent Memory PoisoningWrites attacker-controlled rules into memory that affect later sessions
  • Remote Payload Retrieval and ExecutionFetches external code whose behavior can change after review

Vague Triggers

Medium
Category
Not specified by scanner
Confidence
93% confidence
Finding

The trigger list and description are broad enough to match generic terms like "no API key," "USDC payment," and even broad "Coinbase x402 protocol questions," which can cause the skill to be invoked outside its intended CoinMarketCap x402 scope. Over-broad invocation increases the chance an agent routes unrelated financial or payment requests into this skill, leading to incorrect actions, unnecessary paid requests, or exposure of wallet/payment workflow guidance in inappropriate contexts.
