Clarity Research

Security checks for vulnerabilities and agentic risk

Overview

This skill is a small, disclosed Clarity Protocol query helper that only makes user-invoked GET requests and optionally uses an API key for rate limits.

Install only if you are comfortable with the skill making HTTPS requests to Clarity Protocol. If you set CLARITY_API_KEY, it will be sent as an X-API-Key header to clarityprotocol.io for rate-limit purposes; the artifact does not store it locally.

Vulnerability Patterns
  • Skill Instruction HijackingAlters the agent's session goals or safety constraints when the skill loads
  • Agent Memory PoisoningWrites attacker-controlled rules into memory that affect later sessions
  • Remote Payload Retrieval and ExecutionFetches external code whose behavior can change after review
  • Embedded Malicious CodeShips malicious scripts inside the skill and executes them locally
  • Unauthorized Access and Privilege EscalationObtains permissions beyond the task's legitimate needs
Vulnerability Patterns
  • MCP Least PrivilegeUnderdeclared Capability, Wildcard Permission, Missing Permission Declaration
  • MCP Tool PoisoningHidden Instructions, Unicode Deception, Parameter Description Injection
  • Prompt InjectionInstruction Override, Hidden Instructions, Exfiltration Commands
  • Data ExfiltrationExternal Transmission, Env Variable Harvesting, File System Enumeration
  • Privilege EscalationExcessive Permissions, Sudo/Root Execution, Credential Access

Finding

The code clearly supports listing/querying protein variants by disease or protein name from Clarity Protocol, which aligns with part of the description. However, this specific code chunk does not implement any functionality to get API info, and it does not search fold results or broader protein research data beyond the /variants endpoint. So the description is somewhat broader than the actual behavior, creating a partial mismatch.

Undeclared Tool Scope

MCP Least Privilege

Finding

The skill documentation indicates use of network access and an environment variable (CLARITY_API_KEY), but it does not declare an explicit tool scope such as permissions or allowed-tools. In agent environments, missing scope declarations can cause overbroad execution privileges or make sensitive capabilities implicit, which weakens reviewability and increases the chance of unintended network access or secret exposure.
