Security audit

time-now

Security checks for vulnerabilities and agentic risk

Overview

The skill provides clearly described, read-only time lookups, with ordinary privacy considerations when querying IP addresses.

Time. Now receives your lookup requests, including any public IP address you query. Use a city or timezone lookup if you prefer not to submit a particular IP address. Automatic IP lookup reflects the agent's host, which may differ from your location.

Vulnerability Patterns
  • Skill Instruction HijackingAlters the agent's session goals or safety constraints when the skill loads
  • Agent Memory PoisoningWrites attacker-controlled rules into memory that affect later sessions
  • Remote Payload Retrieval and ExecutionFetches external code whose behavior can change after review
  • Embedded Malicious CodeShips malicious scripts inside the skill and executes them locally
  • Unauthorized Access and Privilege EscalationObtains permissions beyond the task's legitimate needs
Vulnerability Patterns
  • Output HandlingUnvalidated Output Injection, Cross-Context Output, Unbounded Output
  • MCP Tool PoisoningHidden Instructions, Unicode Deception, Parameter Description Injection
  • Prompt InjectionInstruction Override, Hidden Instructions, Exfiltration Commands
  • Data ExfiltrationExternal Transmission, Env Variable Harvesting, File System Enumeration
  • Privilege EscalationExcessive Permissions, Sudo/Root Execution, Credential Access

Finding

The service domain is consistent with the description, and a health check could support a larger implementation. However, the supplied code contains only that check; it does not request current-time data, resolve an IP address, or retrieve supported timezones. Its implemented function therefore materially differs from the declared purpose.

The IP lookup workflow sends a user-supplied public IP address to Time. Now without a privacy warning.

Finding

The instructions direct the agent to place the supplied IP address in a request to a third-party service, but do not warn that the address will be disclosed to that service. Public IP addresses can be privacy-sensitive; the general instruction not to send personal data on line 78 does not explain this disclosure.
