Vulnerability Type: Unpinned npm dependency installation
Risk Level: Mediummarkdown ## SDK Integration For the simplest integration, use the Orthogonal SDK: ```bash npm install @orth/sdktext ### Technical Analysis The documented installation command retrieves `@orth/sdk` without specifying an exact reviewed version or integrity value. Consequently, users following the instructions may install a future package release whose code differs from the version available when the Skill was audited. npm dependencies can contain installation lifecycle scripts and executable runtime code. If the publisher account, package, registry, or dependency chain is compromised, a malicious release could execute under the installing user's privileges. The installed SDK would also operate in a process that may have access to `ORTHOGONAL_API_KEY` and other environment variables. The audit found no evidence that the current `@orth/sdk` package is malicious. The vulnerability is the use of a mutable and insufficiently constrained supply-chain dependency. ### Attack Path 1. An attacker compromises the package publisher, registry release process, or a transitive dependency. 2. The attacker publishes a malicious version that resolves under the unpinned `npm install @orth/sdk` command. 3. A user follows the Skill documentation and installs the mutable latest release. 4. Malicious package code executes through an npm lifecycle script or when the SDK is imported. 5. The code acts with the user's process privileges and may access environment variables, application data, network connectivity, and files available to that account. ### Impact Assessment Successful exploitation could execute arbitrary code with the privileges of the user installing or running the SDK. Depending on the host environment, the affected scope may include theft of `ORTHOGONAL_API_KEY` ...[truncated 318 chars]- Remediation

Remediation Suggestions
- Pin
@orth/sdkto an exact version that has been reviewed, rather than resolving the latest release:bash npm install --save-exact @orth/sdk@<reviewed-version> - Commit a generated lockfile and use
npm ciin automated or reproducible environments. - Verify package provenance, publisher identity, registry source, and integrity metadata before installation.
- Review both direct and transitive dependencies with an appropriate dependency-audit process.
- Disable package lifecycle scripts where they are unnecessary, for example by using
--ignore-scripts, after confirming that the reviewed package functions correctly without them. - Run installation and SDK execution under a least-privileged account or isolated environment.
- Expose only the required API credential to the process, scope that credential narrowly, and rotate it if dependency compromise is suspected.
